Hi Robert,

Greetings from Australia. I can tell you what little I know about the Taylor's of Chiselborough in Somerset.

My husband's great, great grandfather is William Taylor, born in 1836, died 1906. The only document I can find is a 1841 census of his family that I think is correct. I've found a passenger list from 1855 which confirms what I already know from a book that he left Chiselborough for Sydney in 1855. On the document it was interesting to note that his mother was alive at the time, but his father was dead. On one person's family tree it said that William's father had remarried and was included in an 1881 census. I don't think this is right.

William ended up in West Maitland, New South Wales and was quite a prominent builder, building the court house in Maitland. A descendent has written down the family tree from William onwards, but sadly nothing before him.

The only other person mentioned was William's uncle Matthew Gawler Taylor. He married an Ann Druce.

I hope that helps. I would love to find out more of the Taylor's before 1841.

Kind regards,
Sue Taylor
