Hi relh77,

Sorry for delayed reply - forgot I had used this email address at one time. Please use sharon1333@sympatico.ca for direct contact.

Have much more info than when I last posted on CAINES and related families - willing to exchange info and see if we are related.

Sharon

My maiden name was Caines and I grew up on the Northern Peninsula. I have recently started a family tree, but I have lots of gaps and missing information. I would love to connect with other relatives and compare info.

Hi

I'm Michael Caines. The William Caines you ask about is my great grandfather. His son Augustus is my Grandfather and my father is Maurice. Both Augustus and Maurice were also born in Port Saunders.

To answer your question, I distinctly remember hearing as a child a conversation mentioning that William Caines is the son of Reuben Caines. I remember because the name Reuben seemed quite unique to me at the time.

From what I can tell, Reuben had a brother Michael and they were among the very first settlers in Port Saunders

Heres a link stating so

I'm of course not 100% certain but am passing along what I heard to be the case...

You asked this question 10 years ago...perhaps you know the answer at this point..:)

Hi Michael - Reuben is my wifes 2nd great grandfather. I have a photo of his old powder horn if you are interested in it. I found an old article in the news paper where he was taken to St.Anthony by sled because he got sick and died. The thing we are uncertain of is his burial place. I can be reached directly at wmod2025@mindspring.com thank you Wayne
