I need the List's help to locate information that will lead me to my grandmother, Emily APPLIN m. James Gallant in the late 1920's. They left NFLD shortly thereafter as he went to work in the papermill in NB. I have pictures if anyone wishes to see them for identification.
At this time, we have very little information and cannot locate her on any census. She was born in Flower's Cove around 1904 and died March 9 1979 in Dalhousie, New Brunswick. She was christened on Gooseberry Island. This is from family information and we have no confirmation. She also told us stories of a dog going to Gargamelle to get mail not sure of that connection.
I know that her mother is probably Mary (Myra) Payne (Pynn). We believe she was married to Thomas Applin. He died and we believe she married John HUMBER. She has 3 half or step sisters, Cate (Kate), Phyllis and Betty. One of these girls married George DECKER, and the other two married Thomas and Ernest COATES. I have a picture of my grandmother with these three step-sisters taken prob. taken around 1960 along with Aunt Jane, Uncle Alex and my grandfather.
Emily's sister is Jane Applin who married Alex Bennett from Daniel's Harbor.
Aunt Jane is living at the Interfaith nursing home in Corner Brook and is 100 years old.
We found the following names in a old hymn book, perhaps it means something to someone.
Henry Thomas Applin born in England Sept 11 1835
Mary Jane Gibbons b. Aug 3 1844
Richard Applin 1863
Susan Applin 1866
Henry Thomas Applin b. Sept. 7 1878
If anyone has any information about any Applin, please contact me, any info will help narrow down my search. I have a great deal of Gallant information that I can share.
