My grandfather, Thomas Kean (also spelled Kane), was born in St. John's Newfoundland around 1867. He emigrated to Massachusetts as an adult and died there in 1942. I believe his parents emigrated to Newfoundland from Ireland.I am assuming that it was during the Potato famine, but I have no proof. I have not been able to find any records of his family in Newfoundland or any connection to Ireland. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions of how to research this or ideas, particularly if there were many people who came to Newfoundland from Ireland around the time of the famine. I had other relatives who emigrated to New Brunswick and have been able to find some information about them, but not about Thomas Kean. I appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks very much!!
