Still trying to uncover my Emberley roots from Bruley, Long Island, Placentia Bay. Long Island is adjacent to Merasheen Island in Placentia Bay and had the communities of Harbour Buffett, Kingwell and Bruley….
From what I can learn their was a family of Emberley’s living in a area called Indian Harbour on the tip of Merasheen Island .This was a James & Elizabeth Emberley but I have no other info on them. This is the only info I can find on the Emberley name in Merasheen Island.
In the directory of 1871 listed a James, a John, a Joseph a William & a Peter Emberley in Bruley, Long Island.
In 1898 the directory of Bruley list a Peter Emberley Sr General Dealer, Peter Emberley Jr General Dealer also William, John, Bernard, Patrick, James, Michael & Richard Emberley listed as fishermen.
When did your Patrick Emberley move to English Harbour, I see he was their in 1898…
Can you give me a list of birthdates and names for Patrick’s children?
My William Emberley was born in Bruley in 1846 he had one sister for certain Mary Jane Emberley born 1857 his father was James Emberley where he was born is uncertain. My William Emberley had left Bruley before the directory of 1871….
Any little help would be greatly appreciated my email is lentree@netscape.net
Cheers Leonard Lahey

Hey,

I am wondering about the James Vaters and Elizabeth Hackett you mentioned. I believe they had Winter Houses in English Harbour East, and my great great grandfather Michael Hynes had a sister named Ellen Hynes, who was married to a John Vaters who I think may have been your John Samuel Vaters.
Also a John Hynes married a Mary Ann Vaters in English Harbour East of the same era. Thanks devongriffin1

Hi Maurice,

I have very little on your side of the family, and would like to compare notes.

Your Michael Hynes was the nephew of my great great grandfather Michael Hynes.

Your Michael Hynes was the son of Patrick Hynes and Sarah McCarthy.

Could you tell me who all the children of Michael & Johannah/Hannah married? Thanks -devongriffin1

Are you still searching for Emberley family tree information. We have been looking into our side of the family and believe that Patrick Emberley 1851-1925 and Margaret Vater 1853-1937 were my great-grandparents. My grandfather was Joseph W. Emberley, born 1891 and married to Sarah Cox, born 1893, died 1976 in Halifax. I would be interested in hearing from you with regards to this family history.
