Looking for Hillier's in Bay Du Nord, Fortune Bay, St. John's, Newfoundland
Starting the Canadian/Newfoundland part of research for my husband's great grandmother Johanna "Hanna" Hillier, b. ~1884-1886. Her parents were named George & Mary Hillier (father was supposedly French, mother Canadian) and I think she may have had a brother named William Thomas Hillier, b. 1885 in Fortune Bay. Hanna Hillier immigrated to US about 1907 and married a Samuel Cook, who was also from Canada, and I think they knew each other from when they lived in Canada, but that's not certain. I have seen the name Hillard in place of Hillier, not sure if it was a misspelling or if Hillier was the misspelling.......when she married a second time, her name was listed as "Hannah Hillard Cook", but family members I've spoken to say they think its Hillier.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Looking for Hillier's in Bay Du Nord, Fortune Bay, St. John's, Newfoundland
LDS Family Search has a collection of parish records available in the browsing section. I found a delayed baptism record for Johanna there (record created in 1946)....in Newfoundland Vital Statistics 1753 to 1893, Fortune Bay, Harbour Breton, Church of England. The record says she is "male" and her surname is "Helyer". Parents are given as George, a fisherman, and Mary Ann. Johanna was born December 20th, 1883, and baptised on June 4th, 1884. You may be able to find more records for this family by browsing. Linda
