Was there any more information gathered on the Toronto, Ontario Sheppards? I am looking for a William Sheppard who was listed as Captain in TO Directory in 1856. His wife was Rose Ann nee Mulligan (Rosa, Roxanna) born Ireland 1831. Two children: William b 1853 possibly US (1861 census transcription lists him as Thomas) Francis Henry b 1857 Toronto. William died before 1861 census. Can only find Francis in 1881 census in Simcoe County

Looking for info from 2010 post from woman who said her mother's maiden name was gushue and that her grandfather on mother's side was george francis gushue and grandmother was mary bridget costello gushue. My father was Cyril Gushue, whose father was George and I am conflicted as to whether his mother was mary bridget or another bridget (kelly). In any event, grandfather George brought Cyril with him to US and am told that he worked for a catholic church in the Troy, NY area and that he had a "second" wife whose name I believe was margaret (? mahon) and several more children were born. I did track down a Gordon Gushue who died in Troy, NY area in the late 1990s who listed a brother of Cyril, assume my father. Any help with this would be most appreciated. I found my father on the census taken in early 1900s in Newfoundland.

Descendants of 1831 Shipwreck at Baccalieu Island

Seeking information about the schooner "AZARAIAH" that was wrecked on Baccalieu Island on her way out the Bay to the seal hunt in the early morning hours of 16 MAR 1831. 4 survivors (only survivor name known is John NEWELL) / 19 victims (only victim name known is the Captain, John BONNELL (BUNNELL). Ship was owned by merchant WILLIAM MUNDEN of BRIGUS. Captain lived at CUPIDS. Survivors were seen and rescued by schooner "JOSEPH", also out of Cupids.
Newspaper reports of the day hold only information we have of this tragedy (Royal Gazette and The Newfoundlander).
Some oral traditions state schooner was originally the "ACTIVE" and renamed by the Bonnell Family to "BROTHERS". We suspect the crew were from BRIGUS, CUPIDS, and area, including NORTH RIVER, Conception Bay. Without recovered bodies, there are no area church records giving names of the victims.
The Cupids Historical Society is trying to find names of all aboard for a potential exhibit / memorial in Cupids. If this shipwreck story is in your Family Tree, please contact me at dale.russell.fitzpatrick@gmail.com
Thanks in advance for any and all clues!

See attached image showing his birth of November 5th, 1895, and his baptism on December 3rd, Certificate # 606827 (Line 40).
Linda

Linda I would like to thank you so much for replying to my request. This information is so helpful. I have not had the luck lately with Family Search since they changed. Maybe I need to try harder. Mary E. Richards is the grandmother of a close friend of mine, Myrtle Denyer. Myrtle said her grandmother had died before she was born and she wished she had asked more question regarding her grandmother. Myrtle's father was Clarence Goold. I told Myrtle I belonged to Ancestry.ca and I would try to see if I could find out any information on Mary. Thanking you again - Joyce Brownell

Hi Joyce,
Family Search has the attached death record for Mary E. Goold, born ca 1880, died November 18, 1926, Sussex, N.B.; parents are John Richards and Sarah Dore? Sarah's surname in other records appears to be Daw or Dawe.
There are birth, marriage and death records for children of John and Sarah (perhaps sometimes or always the same couple) on the same site. Just search using the parents' names and surname Richards.
http://ngb.chebucto.org/ has the marriage record for a John Thomas Richards and a Sarah Daw, both of New Bay Head, at New Bay on March 8, 1865 (Anglican Marriage Register Moreton's Harbour). Witnesses are Isaac Richards and Richard Martin.
Linda

Hello! I'm not sure if I'm on the right tree yet... I've just started. I'm the daughter of Wilfred Nathaniel Drover - son of Nathaniel Drover of Conception Bay. My Grandfather passed away from TB when my father (born Jan 1945) was a young boy. My Grandfather was married to Rachel (Drover). Clarence Drover (2nd son of my Grandfather) still lives in the old home (slightly renovated and now with running water instead of the old creek :), and he is married to Ruth - they have 2 sons. Are we part of the same tree? I'd love to get some more details of extensions!!

I will dig out my information and be able to tell you when Sarah Jane Mitchell died.
Her first husband (in the family bible) was listed as Simeon Richards (no mention of Jonh as a first name). She did marry Robert Porter...my Dad used to say everyone called him Uncle Rob. He apparently died when his horse and dray (along with him) slid off the icy road and over the cliffs around Hibbs Hole in winter . Apparently he was a lovely man and it was a terrible tragedy for the fmaily.

Thanks so much for the information. I didn't have all of that.
Cheers,
June

George RICHARDS), but my grandfather can only confirm his uncle Isaac, who had a son Isaac and a daughter, name unknown.

Census and church have no records around the time of their birth that I have seen.
Sarah (Jane) Richards/Porter (maiden name Mitchell)was married to a Mr. Richards and had my grandmother (Naomi), an only child. When Sarah's first husband died she married a Mr. Porter from Port-de-Grave. When he passed away as well, she moved in with my grandparents Isaac and Naomi and their 4 living children (Betty, Rita, Ern (my Dad) and Ike) My grandparents were married (gosh no one lived together back then, did they)but I don't know which church. Their first children ( a set of twins) were still born, when they were living in Glace Bay Nova Scotia. My grandfather mined coal there until his hip was crushed in a mining cave-in.They tehn moved back to Bareneed. They lived on the hill going towards Port-de-Grave...the road that curves up from Bareneed Cove. Left side of the road, half way up the hill.
My grandfather, Isaac, had only one brother, Arthur (married to Leah Dawe).
The problem is that there are at least 3 different Boone famililes (apparently not related) that lived in Bareneed in my time (who knows how many before that). They kept choosing the same biblical names for their children which makes it hard to tease out who's who.
I see what happened! You'll want to talk to junethenewfie, that was her post slipped in there talking about another Isaac unrelated to my own. I would also assume that it would be Naomi PORTER based on that Census, not Richards as well. I actually got a tree from someone that had Porter for MY Naomi, which I have since corrected.

I've got to fix up my tree a little around William and Naomi, as it appears that William H (d 1927) is not Naomi's husband, but William (d 1910) is, explaining his absence from all census data, but fatherly presence in all church birth records. I don't know why they are burried beside each other but that is the only assumption I made, everything else seems supported by actual evidence. If you come across any info for my family let me know :)

Good luck!
Sorry, let me look at my tree again and see what you're talking about.

I don't believe I have any current link to this Isaac on line 184. The only Isaac I have dealt with is the brother of William Boone (who does NOT appear to be William H Boone btw), who appears on line 62 as uncle of William A Boone, my great grandfather. William A is son of William Boone (dead at this time) and Naomi Russell, who appears on line 57 living with her other son Stephen.

Stephen's son Roy is my grandfathers cousin and is still alive at 99 in Bareneed. He and my grandfather have provided a lot of stories to back up recent history research hints.

I know that William's brother Isaac (line 62) had a son named Isaac and a daughter who's name I do not know but I don't have any birth dates. I do not currently have any record of a spouse either.

Sorry, I think we have some confusion. I agree that William H. Boone had a wife Naomi Russell.

My enquiry was referring to your grandfather Isaac Boone who you said married Naomi Richards. Below is what is on the 1935 census of Bareneed which led me to question if Naomi was a Porter and not a Richards.

Here is the link to the 1935 census of Bareneed and look at Dwelling 104 at line 184 which shows this family and Sarah Porter as the mother-in-law to Isaac Boone.

http://ngb.chebucto.org/C1935/35-bareneed-pdg.shtml

I have spoken to someone else who has Porter as a last name, but I'm pretty sure on Russell in my Tree. I've had a lot of trouble here, with recent info possibly leading to the fact that the William buried next to Naomi is not her husband at all, who may have actually died in 1910, before the first census, explaining his complete absence from any other records.

Check the death record for John Thomas Boone who moved to Glace Bay, NS. I have all the names and dates on that document backed up from family, it is the basis for some of my other research

Transcription of text in document
Name: John Thomas Boone
Birth: Newfoundland, 12 Dec 1878
Trade: Carpenter
Wife: Katherine

Father: William Boone
Mother: Naomi Russell

This document is from NS geneology, I blew it up from the free thumbnail because I'm too cheap to pay the $10 for the record
Hello, I saw your info below and was curious if your grandmother Naomi Richards who married Isaac Boone was actually Naomi Porter and not Richards. On the 1935 census of Bareneed, Port de Grave, your grandparents are listed and has Sarah Porter living with them and listed as the mother-in-law to Isaac Boone. So either Naomi was a Porter or her mother Sarah was married to a Porter and a Richards. Can you clarify Naomi's surname?

I am not sure if I have the right board, but I am looking for any information on a Driscoll family. I am interested in a William Driscoll who married Rachel Spark(e)s. They had children Annie, Eliab, Ernest, Fanny Maud, Jabez, Janet, Noah and Tryphena and possibly Caleb. All the children were born in Lower Island Cove between 1880 and 1895. Three children, Ernest, Caleb and Noah turn up in Montreal in the time frame 1900 - 1910. Ernest married Jennie Williamson, Noah married Blanche Shute and I am unsure about Caleb. I am looking for any connections in Newfoundland for this Driscoll family.
My sister-in-law descends from Ernest.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Dave

Hi Tina
I saw in your post that you mention "Dorcas" and "Legrow".
My husband's great grandmother was Dorcas Legrow born in Bay De Verde, Newfoundland on May 11, 1846. She married Gordon Butler who was born August 22, 1844 also in Bay De Verde. I don't have any information on their marriage. Do you know anything about Dorcas? I'm going to Newfoundland in July and am trying to get as much info as I can before I get there. Thanks. Michelle Warren

Hi,
Hi. I am descended from Merrigans who came to Massachusetts via Canada, and Patrick is a recurring first name. Do you know where in Ireland Patrick Merrigan hailed from???
My ancestor was Martin Merrigan, from Clonmacnoise in County Offaly -- though I don't know if he was born there. He came to Canada with wife Brigid Madden, and two sons: Michael and Patrick. At least one daughter was born somewhere in Canada, and they were in Hardwick (central) Massachusetts by 1850. There is a story that this Martin Merrigan bought the Massachusetts farm from a brother already in the US.... does this ring any bells for you?

-- Eileen Gloster, daughter of Mary Merrigan

Hello, even though your query was posted in 2008 I decided to reply to your query re: Anne Narocot (Norcott?)...you might want to research the following genealogy sites as follows:

Newfoundland Grand Banks (ngb.chebucto.org) or Newfoundland GenWeb (nl.canadagenweb.org) search under Conception Bay North - Harbour Main - Colliers; Baptisms/Marriages, etc..the names Narocott/Norcott/Luffman were families residing in Colliers, Newfoundland.

However from about mid-late 1800's these family names were no longer residents. The LUFFMAN name became more known in the Harbour Grace area of Newfoundland. {*Note: Prior to 1949, Newfoundland was a colony under Britain}.

Good luck with your search! :)
