Re: The book The Settling of Spaniard's Bay, by Eric Gosse
Hi Anne I purchased my book from the Downhomer Shop in St. John's I also picked up a couple of others that are great for anyone doing research in NL for their family roots. I don't have access to all of them at the moment because I had water in my basement and have them packed in tupperware storage containers. These one's were up stairs so I'll list them for you;A History of Corpus Christi Parish Norther Bay plus Rhodes Scholars of Newfoundland; The Settling Of Spaniard's Bay which is stored away at the moment, plus there are two or three that I have concerning Bell Island. I also purchased the following books from the genealogy store near Cambridge Ontario that sells nothing but genealogy supplies but I can't remember the name of the store but here's the names of the 3 books that I purchased there, I also purchased large genealogy charts; Vol 1 of Erin's Sons: Irish Arrivals In Atlantic Canada 1751-1858;Vol 2 of Erin's Sons: Irish Arrivals in Atlantic Canada 1761-1853; Vol 3 of Erin's Sons:Irish Arrivals in Atlantic Canada 1761-1853 in this book alone there are at least 28 pages of names of Irish immigrants that were buried in Halifax NS between 1800-1842 it provides their date of death, their name somtimes their occupation, some cases their spous and in many cases where in Ireland they came from. Here's an example of what you'll find in these 3 volumes: 22 Sep 1833 Bridget Kehoe, 40, wife of John Ast, shoemaker (Shed died on 22 Sept 1833;married 9 May 1822: John, son of Robert & Margaret (Watson) Ast of Clonmel, Tipperary, to Bridget, dau of John & Bridget (Keating) Kehoe of Tintern, Wexford. (StM, Hfx). 21 Jan 1841 Margaret (Waton), 84, born Clonmel, Tipperary(widow of Robert)Ast.
Then there is 2 or 3 pages of Irish born in New Brunswick in 1851. There's list of Irish-Born Inmates of the Halifax Bridewell 1817-18. These books are a must have if you're searching for ancestors in the Atlantic Provinces. I'm very glad that I purchased them altho I haven't found any of my ancestors in them yet but I don't know of any of my ancestors that might have gone to Halifax, New Brunswick or the other Atlantic Provinces other than Newfoundland. These 3 Volumes are by Terrence M. Punch and the publishing info is: Published by Genealogical Publishing Company 3600 Clipper Mill Rd., Suite 260;Baltimore, MD 21211-1953; they had 4 printings of these books the last that I know of was in 2009 the ISBN 978-08063-1782-3 in case you want to check with your library to see if they carry these books. If they do at least you can take a look at them and see if they would be worth having in your genealogy library at home. Good luck.

Dear Mr Bob Jarvis I realize that your original posting/query is dated nearly eleven (11) years ago but should you still be actively researching then I would appreciate you contacting me at mrbig45@hotmail.com. I know that we are related through the RYAN family of Spaniards Bay and I am interested in searching information with you.

Re: The book The Settling of Spaniard's Bay, by Eric Gosse
I should keep up to these messages. I am descended from my grandfather Simeon Gosse, Spaniards Bay. Our line goes back to approx. 1400-1500's. As my cousin Vincent Elliott passed away this year I have lost my main contact. I would be most interested in obtaining a copy of your book if it is still available.
