Freshwater, Carbonear Moores, Penney Families
Looking for any information about ancestors living in Freshwater area including Flatrock, Clowns Cove, Otterbury in 1800s and early 1900s. My mother, Frances Gertrude Moores, dau of Jonathan Moores, son of Edmund and Susannah Barrett, and Abigail Jane Penney, dau of James and Mariah Jane Butt, came to Boston area in 1927. Jonathan died in 1913 in Freshwater and Abigail in 1947. Mariah Butt's father was Adam Butt, but cannot find a link to early Roger Butt. Would like to trace these early family emigrants back to place of origin.

I don't know if there is any connection, but my grandmother, Lavinia Froude Joyce (1870-1945) was the daughter of Wm. Froude and Eliza Barrett of Old Perlican. Lavinia married Thomas Enoch Joyce of Carbonear, son of Joseph Joyce and Louisa Moores (1832-1915). Thomas and Lavinia emigrated to Boston in the 1920s. My great-grandmother Louisa was the daughter of Jonathan Moores and Elizabeth Noel. I wonder if they were related to your Jonathan Moores?

Re: Freshwater, Carbonear Moores, Penney Families
Dorothy, I see the names Barrett, Moores, and Noel on your post. I have these names in my family tree. I am particularly interested in Jonathan Moores (b. 1797) who married Elizabeth Noel (1794-1868). Their daughter Louisa Moores Joyce was my great-grandmother. They were from the Carbonear-Freshwater area. This Jonathan would be too far back to be your grandfather, but do you have any connection to these people?

Re: Freshwater, Carbonear Moores, Penney Families
Hi Dorothy, I have information about the Moores of Freshwater who have a connection to the Moores of Blackhead. I recognize your mother's name from my family tree. My line of Moores comes from the brother of Jonathan Moores Jr in Blackhead.

Re: Freshwater, Carbonear Moores, Penney Families
Hi Dorothy and JJOBrien,
Louisa Moores and Edmund Moores were brother and sister. Their father was Jonathan Moores 3rd (at 1797) who married Elizabeth Noel. Jonathan the 3rd's father is Jonathan Moores Jr. (1763-1846). Jonathan Jr. had 3 brothers Thomas, John and Henry (Jonathan Jr. was the 2nd son).. The four of them almost drowned in Conception Bay at one point. The four brothers and their father was instrumental in building/creating the Methodist Church in Blackhead. Jonathan Jr's father is Jonathan Sr. (1723-1808). Jonathan Jr's older brother Thomas is my gggg-grandfather.
I hope this helps. to make the connection
