Parsons, Brewer, Mayo of Burin area
I am looking for information on the family of John H and Rebecca Julia nee Mayo Brewer and James Parsons families of the Burin area in Newfoundland. John Brewer was born 12/18/1883. Rebecca Julia nee Mayo was born 11/25/1883 and died 05/11/1923. They had a daughter Georgina Lillian born 07/18/1906 who married James Parsons born 11/20/1900. (Georgina) Lillian and James were my grandparents. My mother married a US soldier and brought me to the states as an infant and what little information I have been able to find came from my grandmother's family bible. James' mother was Alvina Parsons (unmarried)and I have no information on her parents. She later married George Moores and most of the family live in the Lewins Cove, Creston, Marystown area on the Burin Peninsula. I have found some basic information in the census available on http://ngb.chebucto.org/ but need to fill in some of the gaps. I would appreciate any help anyone might be able to provide. Thank you, Doris

Hello, I have a cousin who is looking for information on Cyrus Beck who was married to Eliza Senior. His email is southernfolks@sympatico.ca and his name is Nat Mayo. His wife was a Beck and they are having difficulty tracing her side of the family. Nat was able to provide me with a lot of Mayo family information. Thank you for contacting me.

Re: Parsons, Brewer, Mayo of Burin area
I was just talking to my Mother who was born in Lewin's Cove in 1922. She is the daughter of Primadine Taylor and Hubert Appleby. Primadine was the daughter of Selina Brewer and Thomas Taylor. Selina was born in April 1888 (or 1885) at Epworth (or Burin), the daughter of Susan Brewer and Edward Brewer. Hubert Appleby's sister, Laura, married William Mayo. This couple moved to Melford, just outside of Boston.
While talking to my mother, she does not remember George Moores, but she does remember that there was an older man by the name of Tommy Moores who lived in Lewin's Cove. He had a sister that used to smoke a pipe and she would come to the Appleby home and get tobacco that Hubert grew. Since Mom remembers Tommy as an old man and she was a young teen (she left Lewin's Cove in 1945), I would guess that Tommy was about 60 in the 1940's. If this guess is correct, he would have been born around 1880. I hope this helps.

Re: Parsons, Brewer, Mayo of Burin area
Hello, Thank you for your reply. My gg grandfather was John (Douglas?) Brewer born December 18, 1883. In the 1884 Spoon Cove Methodist census I find Edward and Susan Brewer listed with their children along with several other family (?) members. BREWER, Edward and Elizabeth Sr. Mary
BREWER, Edward and Susan Bessie, Eli, Aaron, Earnest, Wilson, Frank, John I
BREWER, Robert (widower)
BREWER, John and Caroline Bridget, Edward M, William H., John ( I ) or ( L )
I wonder if my John Brewer is related to your Selina Brewer? My cousin who still lives in Burin Bay Arm doesn't recognise the name Spoon Cove and I suspect the name has been changed over the years. John Brewer married Rebecca Julia Brewer from Footes Cove around 1904 and my grandmother Lillian Brewer Parsons was born in 1906. Her brothers and sisters were Gordon b 1905, Roasleen b 1906 (?), Douglas b 1908, William Henry b 1909, Francis, and Fredrick born in 1919. Most of my information came from a Mayo cousin. If your mother has any idea about my Brewer ancestors, I would very much appreciate it. I appreciate you taking the time to write. Regards, Doris

Re: Parsons, Brewer, Mayo of Burin area
Hello, This is the family I'm looking for! I have five children's names and some dates. My Grandmother was Gordon's sister Lillian or Georgina Lillian born in 1906 to John and Rebecca (Mayo) Brewer. What little information I have came from Grandmother's family bible. I would love to have more information on the other brothers and sisters as well as John's brothers and sisters and parents if that information is available. My email is daclkg@copper.net, my name is Doris and we would be cousins. Thank you for responding!
