I have Elizabeth Adelaine Smith who was born in Baine Harbour in 1879 (Not sure of Parents Names). Elizabeth married James Austin Lush at St John's in 1913. The only other piece of information that I have which I found in her death notice (1944) was that she had a brother referred to as J W Smith. Does any of this ring a bell?

Thanks

Can't help much there, there are a couple of the Smith's I don't have any information on . The 1921 census shows a James W Smith born 1872 in Baine Harbour but I don't know who his parents were.

In response to your query on John Smith, I was wondering if you came across the name HENRY SMITH. Henry Smith jumped ship in Burin Harbour from the HMS Renown and changed his name to BROWN, not sure if the name change was immediate or not.
You also mentioned Silas Smith marrying Martha Slade. Martha is my ggrandfather's sister. I was wondering if you have any children listed for Martha and Silas?
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

This is all I have. It came from a family tree on the Smiths that I received from Vera Short Cheesman.

SILAS SMITH was born 1864 in Baine Harbour, NF, Canada, and died November 13, 1899 in Baine Harbour, NF, Canada. He married Martha. She was born 1866, and died January 01, 1906.

Child of SILAS SMITH and MARTHA is:
i. JANE SMITH, d. June 24, 1990.

I did find a family tree group for Martha's parents and siblings if you're interested in that. There are 9 of her siblings and their spouses. The one I was interested in is Elvina Slade who married Abraham Johnson and settled in Jacques Fontaine.

After checking my notes,,,I guess the family tree that I was talking about came from you originally. So I probably can't add anything to that area. I do have other connections to that line, Tabitha Slades son married my grandmothers sister Carrie Johnson.

I have 10 children listed for Thomas and Sarah Slade. Do you have any information on Thomas and Sarah regarding their ancestors?
I have 7 children listed for Elvina and Abraham Johnson? You may contact me if you would like to compare data.

Thanks for the information.

The Thomas Smith you're referring to who was married to Margaret Cheeseman later re-married to Olivia Brown from Oderin. His son Thomas Smith Jr married a woman with the first name Jessie. So there's actually two generations there.

Thomas Smith Jr has two sons that have connections to the Vaters. One son also named Thomas (Thomas Malcolm Smith )married a Jessie Vater. The other son John W Smith married Irene Woodam and he had a daughter Margaret that married Leslie Vater. From the little I know, Leslie and Jessie Vater were brother and sister. Their parents were George and Mary Vater. Hope this helps.
