Looking for John Collins, supposedly left Dorset or Devon Area sometime between his birth 1800. Immigrated to Newfoundland. Ended up in Bonavista. One of his children married Hannah Bundle, daughter of Thomas and Catherine Bundle. He may have had a brother Phillip and sister Jane.

My mother was a COLLINS from Carbonear.Conception Bay. While researching I found many COLLINS'S from the Hare Bay area of Bonavista. One in particular was mentioned in a book by Cassie Brown. I believe it was named "Death on the Ice" You might have some luck searching that area.

The person in the book Death on the ice by Cassie Brown was Jesse Collins. He was my Great Great Grandfather. His decendants live in Glovertown, Harebay and the like.

Enjoyed the book. Have stayed with some Collins's in Hare Bay. They may be relatives of yours.

Was wondering the Jesse Collins ancestry line. There are so many Samuels and Jesses. Any help appreciated. I have about 4200 Collins names of Newport and Hare Bay but the Jesse's confuse me.

Surnames: COLLINS
A Collins_Newfoundland_Labrador Y-DNA project has just been launched.

The project's goals are threefold:

to identify the different Collins family groups in Newfoundland;
to determine if possible their origins, both recent and distant; and
to establish a network through which cousins can connect and family history can be shared.

Some people have already tested, and their results are displayed on the website. The website also contains some background information on the origin of the Collins name, early incidences of Collins in Newfoundland, and where Collinses lived in Newfoundland in the 18th and 19th centuries.

If anyone would like to discuss their participation with me or have any questions relating to the project, please contact me.

Hi, info for Collins researchers..
There was also a Wesley (Wes) Collins born 1895 on the SS Newfoundland in 1914, he survived the event but I understand he lost a leg from frostbite. I do not believe he ever went back to the sealhunt but he did continue to sail. In 1918 he was with my Great Grandfather and two of his sons when they drowned off Arichat, Cape Breton, Wes survived that event as well, as a matter of fact he brought my Great Grandfathers body back to NF with him to be buried. Wes spent the latter part of his life in St John's.
There is a book called "The Caribou disaster and other short stories" by Cassie Brown, I believe it was published after her death - Wes Collins story is in one of the chapters in that book.
