I do not see any immediate reference to James Gardner Gilchrist in Vital Statistics (births, deaths and marriages) in New brunswick, nor any mention of him in "Index to death registration of soldiers, 1941-1947" for New Brunswick. According to:
http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/memorials/canadian...
he was a Flight Sergeant in the RCAF, and I believe the RCAF used to have a supply depot in Moncton. See:
http://militarybruce.com/abandoned-canadian-military-bases/a...
However, James died in Toronto.

The reference to E. York and to Ajax would be likely references to York Co., Ontario, rather than to York Co., NB. York Co., Ontario, I believe, is essentially Toronto. East York is east of Old Toronto but part of the City of Toronto and of the Greater Toronto Area. Ajax is in the eastern part of the Greater Ontario Area and about 25 kilometres (16 miles) east of the City of Toronto.

Probably they were married in Ontario and I have noticed some people who seem to have no marriage record and who may have married while in the active military. I suspect these weddings may have been performed under the auspices of a chaplain who did not feel the need to report to any provincial authority, but to some federal authority connected with the Ministry of Defence. It's just a theory.

Ajax appears to be in Durham Co. or Region. In Darlington Township, Durham Co., Ontario, in the 1921 census, was Eunice Lane (5), youngest child of Fred (49) and Mona (40) Lane, with siblings Laura (21), Clifford (17), Frank (8) and Greta (5). Possibly the family in the City of Toronto marriage abstract:

4908-25 Clifford Nicholas LANE, 21, millman, Prince Edward Co Ont., Lot 23 Con 2 of Darlington twp., s/o Fred LANE, b Ont & Mina JONES, married Vernie Evans DEVITT, 19, York Co Ont., Whitby, d/o Judd DEVITT, b. Ont & Hannah DEGEER, witn: Mrs. J. A. WILLOUGHBY of Mimico & Mrs. M. BRICKER of Toronto, 22 Sept 1925 at 527 Euclid Ave

This gives Mona/Mina as having the maiden name, Jones. Fred Lane and Mina Jones also had a daughter, Emma Lane, b. ca. 1898. At:

is the image of an undated (Bowmanville 26JUL1923?), unnumbered, unidentified newspaper. In the section for Maple Grove (after that for Darlington), is an obituary for Mrs. Mina Lane, wife of Fred Lane, who died at the age of 44-years in Bowmanville Hospital the previous Thursday. She was buried in Castleton Cemetery. This is likely "Castleton+, Cramahe Twp. Cemetery
Northumberland Co./Reg./Dist., Ontario", where Greta and Clifford are buried. See:

According to the Bowmanville, "The Canadian Statesman", 12JUN1958, page 5, in story, "Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Malley Celebrate 45th Anniversary", Eunice was still Mrs. Eunice Gilchrist.
According to:
http://images.ourontario.ca/Partners/ClaPL/CLaPL002715264pf_...
(11OCT1961), Eunice Gilchrist (3rd column of "The Orono News") married 7OCT(1961?) Oren C. Malley. This leads me to:
http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lane-1192
and gives her three children by James. Also see:

Not a lot, but it may help fine-tune your search geographically.
