Theodocia Matilda Estabrooks was b. Centre village, Westmorland Co., NB 1FEB1890 the d/o Thomas Willard and Araminta (Scott) Estabrooks. Her sister, Henrietta V. (Estabrooks) Murray attested to the details of her birth. (Araminta is sometimes given as Amanda or Ariminta, but Araminta is correct.) Thomas Estabrooks m. at her uncle's residence, Memracook, Westmorland Co., NB by the Rev. D. S. Carpenter OCT1877 'Areminta' Scott, d/o Israel Scott (ca. 1800-10JUN1883) of Midgic. This is likely Israel Scott b. ca. 1806, arrived from Ireland 1832, with a wife 'Gemima' (Jemima) (b. ca. 1821) in Westmorland Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1851.

In 1881, Thomas (24) and 'Aramirta' (23) Estabrooks lived in Sackville Parish, Westmorland Co., NB. Children were Clara B. (2) and Henrietta (NOV1880.)

In 1891, in Sackville Parish, Thomas (35) and 'Ariminta' (33) had children: Henrietta (10), Arthur (8), Bertha (6), Caleb (4), Theodocia (1) and Isaiah (3 months.)

In 1901 Thomas (8OCT1856) and Araminta (3NOV1857) have children: Etta (8NOV1880), Arthur G. (3JAN1883), Bertha (30JUN1885), Caleb (14APR1887), 'Theadocia' (1FEB1890), Maynard (10FEB1891), Edward (30APR1893), Trueman (28JAN1897) and Greta (21JUN1899.)

Estabrooks is the usual spelling, but the family has a number of variations such as Esterbrooks or Easterbrooks. The family is an old, pre-Loyalist family found in Maugerville in what is now Sunbury Co., NB about 1763, and came from Masschusetts. It is also a very large family; even just the NB branches. See:
http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-E-2006.pdf

Another branch, that of Valentine and Tabitha Dorcas (Beverley) Estabrooks settled in the Sackville area about 1761. There was also William and Miriam (Thornton) Estabrooks.

Thomas Estabrooks (b. Sackville ca. 1856) is given as a s/o George Butler and Jane Lucretia (Barnes) Estabrooks. this appears to be a different Thomas. See:
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/...
See also:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbwestmo/cem-midgic.htm

Thomas Willard/William Estabrooks b. 8OCT1855 (the 1901 census is often a year out) is also given as the s/o Burton Estabrooks (b. ca. 1816-1899) and Amelia Finney (ca. 1826-1908.) See:
http://www.phinneysplace.com/genealogy/p810.htm

It appears Burton was the s/o of Samuel and Jane (Wry) Estabrooks with Samuel the s/o William and Miriam mentioned above.

I've been following this thread and am wondering if you have any more information/source suggestions for descendants of William Estabrooks Jr., b. 1752, m. Miriam Thornton. I am a descendant of their grand-daughter, Miriam (Estabrooks) Chase. I have been searching for information on the ancestry of Miriam Chase's husband, William "Will" Chase.

I own the Estabrooks of Sackville, NB genealogy. Miriam and Will are mentioned in it as marrying in Sackville in 1835. I have been to Sackville several times, also NB Archives, and other libraries, archives and historical collections in both NS and NB. But, as yet, I've found nothing to lead me to the Chase forebears of Will.

If you happen across anything (or anyone) who might have unpublished or unrecorded material that might nail down where Will came from, I and my family would be very grateful.

NOTE: There is a faint possibility that William Chase may, in fact, have had the birth surname of Chasse and have been of French descent. I have put very little time into exploring this possibility because it seems far more likely he descended from one of the English Chase families.

Hi there
My name is Nancy and I have this William and Miriam Thornton in my Family Tree. But don't have what you are looking for as I don't have much on them. The only child I have of theirs if Samuel born 1782. He married Jane E. Wry in 1806 and had three children: Milledge,b. 1834; Valentine, b. February 10, 1830; and Martha Ann, b. January 25, 1825. If you could send me some info on them I would appreciate it very much.
Have a great day : )
Where are you?
My aunt still lives in the house that my great grandfather built in Sackville, on York Street and have been there several times and have gotten lots of info from my aunt.
Thanks
Nancy

I note in the PANB index of land petitions one Reuben Chase. Assuming it is the same person, he petitioned for land in Queens Co., NB in 1786 and 1789, but more significantly in Sackville, Westmorland Co., NB in 1808 with, amongst others:

EASTEBROOKS, JAMES
EASTERBROOKS, DANIEL
EASTERBROOKS, SAMUEL
EASTERBROOKS, THOMAS
EASTERBROOKS, WILLIAM

The name seems to have persisted in the area for several generations. Martha, wife of Reuben Chase, d. Upper Sackville 21MAY1877 age 64 years and 5 months. A Reuben Chase of Sackville d. Lowell, MA in 1853 and in 1888 his remains were conveyed to Sackville for reinterment with his wife. Reuben Chase m. Sackvillle 1JAN1880 Famicha Bower Kerr. This suggests several geneations.
See:
http://www.oulton.com/cwa/newsns.nsf/a6040306c38ac84d8525658...
which in part, has:

"I assume that Reuben, the fourth child of Jethro also lived in Sackville, NB and married (1) Rebecca Lawrence on October 23, 1806 and married (2) Sarah Ayer on November 30, 1808. Reuben died on December 19, 1853 in Lowell, Mass. Sarah Ayer had previously married Robert Atkinson. Can anyone confirm this?"

http://www.pa-roots.org/data/read.php?3528,649935

One inaccessible site has:

Reuben Chase Sr
Birth: About. 1775
Death: 1853 in Lowell, Massachusetts
Sex: M
Father: New England Planters b. 1760
Mother:
Spouses & Children
Sarah Ayer (Wife) b. About. 1778
Marriage: 1808 in Westmorland Cty, NB
Children:
Mary Ann Chase b. About. 1808
Reuben Chase Jr. b. About. 1810
Eliza Chase b. 1817 in Sackville, NB
Chipman Chase b. 1821 in Sackville, NB

suggesting children by his 2nd wife, but not by his 1st. Since William and Miriam had a son, Reuben, a connection seems possible.

There appear to have been two Reuben's early on. At:
http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-C-2006.pdf
is mentioned one in Gagetown, Queens Co., NB. His son-in-law is given as Tertullus Dickinson (the younger), whom, I believe, was later in Carleton Co. This suggests to me that this Reuben (whom I assumed to be the same above) was different. In fact, he died in Queens Co. and died or was buried 20FEB1820 age 81 years.

There is also a mention of Isabel Copp b. NS 1792 who m. Reuben Chase.

I note at:
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~corbeil/purdy...
it is stated that "a record of the marriage rite performed by Rev. Chris. Milner between the years 1820 and 1830 inclusive:", includes for 1825 (rather than 1835; perhaps an error?):

William Chase and Mariam Estabrooks

apparently both of Sackville. The Rev. Christopher M. Milner (Anglican I Believe) was rector in Sackville from 1820 to 1835. He later died in Sackville (1877) and was buried there. Apparently the Anglican Church Records for St. Paul's in Sackville 1825-1839 are on microfilm F-1124. Other records (1825 (1820 elsewhere)-1971) are on F-1125 but are restricted and require permission (probably from the bishop in Fredericton.)

This is likely old ground for you, but I would suspect that somewhere in there is William's family.

Thomas

Another Reuben Chase?

Hi Nancy--with these ancestors in common, I guess were cousins of some stripe. I live in central Maine, near Augusta, these days. Where are you?

Unfortunately, I can't help you with the Thornton line because you have more information than I do! However, I'll keep you in my file in case I ever do come across something on them.

Gee, Thomas, thank you so much for passing along the information and links. As you suspected, I've already come across much of it one way or another. Some NB/NS Chases I've been able to rule out (e.g. Stephen Chase of Cornwallis, NS) and others I haven't been able to collect enough info on to rule out.

The Reuben Chase of Sackville who died in Lowell, MA is certainly one of these. My g-g-grandfather was a Reuben Chase, son of the "Will" Chase I'm trying to track down. My Reuben was b. in Lakeville, NS and immigrated to Lynn, MA just before the 1880 U.S. Census.

There do appear to be a couple of of items in your notes I haven't seen before, however. I'm looking forward to following up on those.
