My Great Great Grandmother was a Petitpas (Elizabeth Petitpas) She was born in PEI , June 1887.I know she had 2 at least 2 sisters - Mary Bella - born in PEI Feb. 11 1880 and Mary Jane born in PEI June 3 1876 -- to parents Pierre Petitpas and Delphne Adele Gallant. I have 3 possible matches for Adele Gallant's parents, although this is on hold for a bit while I research other information. You might want to try the 1901 census for westmorland county (online at the National Archives of Canada). There are a few Petitpas' listed in this census. It is time consuming to look though them online.
I do not know if this is any connection for you, but I do hope it helps!

Thank you for the info that you forwarded regarding the Petipas family. We are still looking into our family history but so far haven't came up with any concrete answers. We are going to Fredericton to the Archives and see what we can come up with. Then our next step is to go to Moncton. We have James Gaines who married Maggie Pettipas in 1902. We haven't been able to go back any further. These are my husband's grandparents. If we connect along the way I will e-mail you again. Thanks Josephine

Surnames: Gaines Gaynes Gaine
Hi,
I am related to the Gaines/Gaynes of Cherryfield, Irishtown. William Gaynes/Gayne born 1797 and died in 1887 was my ancestor. He was married to Ellen O'Brien. They were married at St. Michael's church in Chatham and then they moved to the Moncton area.
Did you discover any more info since you visited Fredericton. I am trying to place who James Gaynes who was married to Maggie Petitpas fits into my tree. We used to visit them in Cherryfield when I was a child.
thanks for any help

Hi Debby: Margaret Marguerite Maggie Petitpas is my great aunt. Her sister Marie Alexinne Petitpas is my great Grandmother. Maggie was born in 1883 and she died on Dec 31, 1975. Her father's name is showing as Joseph. Her mother is Obeline Lirrett. Maggie is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton Westmorland County New Brunswick. Maggie's husband is James Gaines Born July 18 1866 and died Mar 25 1933. His father is William Gaines born 1836. His mother Anastasia Larracy bor 1837 and died 1878. I am having a lot of trouble with the Petitpas family.. I have been told that Joseph may also be known as George and/or Juvenal. I have Aunt Maggie's childrens names also. Who ever put items on ancestry had great difficulty with spellings so it becomes almost like being a detective looking up names etc. Hope this info helps you. Would be glad to chat again. Take care Annn
