Good day all - I'am looking for children of my Grandfather he had with his first wife. I don't have very much info on him for he was born in April 7 1901(?) and died in 1959 in Plaster Rock New Brunswick Canada. I would gather his 3 children he had before he married my grandmother would be born roughly within the range of 1920 to 1945 ish. Walter was born either in one of the New England states and/or McAdam New Brunswick Canada. If you have any info please let me know- thanks
Amanda Eve Phelps

WALTER BENNETT PHELPS b. Petitcodiac, Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 7APR1901 (7APR1906 in death registration), d. Oxbow, Lorne Parish, Victoria Co., NB 19JUN1959 age 53 years, 2 months and 13 days, m. 1st _____; m. 2nd EVA GERTRUDE RUFF (b. Oxbow, Lorne Parish, Victoria Co., NB ca. 1930; m. 2nd 12JAN19** Bearl Bernard Brown), d/o Abraham Noah and Lenta Muriel (Paget) Ruff.
Walter, according to his death registration, was a son of Fred ('Frederic') M. and Mary Ellen (Crosby) Phelps. Frederick was b. Petitcodiac, NB and Mary Ellen was b. Glasgow, Scotland. Although given as dying in Oxbow, his wife, Eva Gertrude, lived in Plaster Rock, Gordon Parish, Victoria Co., NB at the time of his death. Fred W. Phelps of Aroostook Junction, Andover Parish, Victoria Co., NB was b. NB 16NOV1874 and d. Aroostook Junction 17JAN1930. He was a son of Andrew and Matilda (Burton) Phelps and was a blacksmith.
In 1907, Fred Miles Phelps and his wife, Mary Ellen Crosby, lived in Millstream, Kings Co., NB on 10DEC1907 when their son, Frank Crosby Phelps, was born. In this case, Fred was b. Penobsquis, Cardwell (?) Parish, Kings Co., NB and Mary Ellen was b. Shettleson, Scotland. Shettleston or Shuttlestoun is in the east end of Glasgow. Fredrick and Mary Ellen (Crosby) Phelps also had Gertrude Eva Phelps b. Penobsquis 14JAN1898 and a daughter b. Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 5JUL1903. They are also said to have had Frank Phelps b. 10DEC1907.
Frederick Phelps b. Pebsquis ca. 1874, m. St. Mary's Anglican Church, Saint John, Saint John Co., NB 14AUG1895 Mary Ellen Crosbie (b. Edinburgh, Scotland ca. 1873), d/o John and Sarah Crosby. Frederick was the son of Andrew and Matilda Phelps and is the Fred W. Phelps who d. in 1930. The Rev. W. O. Raymond performed the ceremony. Later an Archdeacon of the Anglican Church, Raymond was a prolific student of NB History and early Genealogy.
Contradictions, such as Mary Ellen's place-of-birth, are common in Genealogy. Most likely she was b. in Shettleston, but it is best to note all variation before making an assumption. It seems that Frederick Miles Phelps was from the Sussex Valley area of Kings Co., NB rather than Westmorland Co., NB. Mary Ellen Phelps d. York Co., NB (possibly Fredericton?) apparently 19FEB1953 or thereabouts. The typewritten portions of her death registration are so faded as to be illegible.
'Fredrick Philps' (16) lived with his parents, Andrew (60) and Matilda (57) in Cardwell Parish, Kings Co, NB in 1891. In Cardwell Parish in 1991, Andrew (46) and Matilda (45) had Charles (7) and Frederick (6).
I do not find Andrew in Kings Co., NB in 1871 although there were Phelps' in Sussex Parish. Notably John Phelps b. NB ca. 1823 with a wife, 'Neamah' (b. NB ca. 1843 and several, young children. Cardwell Parish was part of Sussex Parish until 1874. I cannot find Andrew in 1861 either.
Richard Phelps (ca. 1789-18SEP1851) and his wife, Margaret (ca. 1808-JUN1882), are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, in Kings Co. Also in this cemetery is buried Andrew's wife, Matilda (ca. 1834-JUN1894). She d. Penobsquis 8JUN1894 age 60 years. She was a member of the Free Baptist Church and left a husband and three sons.

From an earlier posting of mine:

"If you mean Andrew Phelps, he is likely the 'Aneras Philps' b. ca. 1831, son of a widow (b. NB ca. 1799.) Possibly this widow was the Margaret (ca. 1808-1882) widow of Richard Phelps (ca. 1786-18SEP1851) although this seems unlikely. Richard 'Phelp' and Margaret Harmer lived in Sussex Parish when they married 18SEP1827. I suspect this was Richard's 2nd marriage. Margaret Phelps (58) is a widow in Sussex Parish in 1871 living with children, William (29), Martha (24) and 'Charlott' (22). Amongst the widow's children in 1851 are William (13), Martha (5) and 'Charlott' (7), so this seems to be the same family with the dates in 1851 probably being more 'off' than usual. For example, John Phelps, age 33 years in 1851, has, in two decades, miraculously only aged 9 years by 1871. I suspect that '33' in 1851 should have been '22' as he was listed after Sarah Jane (23) and before 'Aneras' (20). John N. Phelps (b. Kings Co., NB) was age 66 when he died in Glassville, Carleton Co. in 1892. Being b. ca. 1826-30 makes more sense.

"According to the 1871 directory, Andrew Phelps is supposed to be in Sussex Parish but I do not see him. He seems to be in Cardwell Parish, Kings Co., NB in 1881, when he was b. ca. 1835. He is given as Swedish which may explain difficulties with the surname.

"William Orrin Phelps b. NB 14MAR1840, d. Quincy, MA 22JUN1915. He was a s/o Richard and Margaret (Palmer) Phelps. I suppose 'Harmer' could be an erroneous transcription of Palmer. William was from Kings Co. In 1881, William O. Phelps (ca. 1841) and his wife, Almira (Fairweather) (ca. 1858) are also in Cardwell Parish,

"While it is still an assumption, I would think that Andrew was William's brother therefore a son of Richard and Margaret (Palmer) Phelps."

I can only find one child for Walter Bennet Phelps and it seems too early for much information to be on-line. Walter 'Philps' (age 20) is with his parents, Frederick (47) and Mary 'L.' (49) in McAdam Parish, York Co., NB in 1921 and with siblings Violet (17, possibly the daughter b. in 1903) and Frank (12). Frank Crosby Phelps worked for the railroad in McAdam in 1961 when he married. Gertrude Eva Phelps m. McAdam 29JUN1918 Charles Leonard McCully. Violet was living in Aroostook Junction, Victoria Co., Nb when she m. 4NOV1927 Howard W. Donovan. I suspect that Frederick Miles Phelps, as a blacksmith, also worked for a railroad company.
Children:
2nd.
1. GLORIA EMELINE PHELPS b. Andover 12APR1946, d. Plaster Rock 12JAN1959.

I am not sure what I can add, Josh, unless you had a specific question. I don't think more recent information would be readily available as that would be considered confidential as dealing with living persons. I would think that, if you are looking for personal or biographical information, consulting with your relatives might be productive.
