Death record for Rebecca (Albright) Graham

Death record for Rebecca (Albright) Graham

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 11:30PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Albright, Graham, Carter
Hello! I am looking for any information possible about the death of Rebecca (Albright) Graham (1858-?). She was married to a William Christopher Graham who went by his middle name on most census records in 1880 at the Albright Family home in Newcastle. I have found death records for William Graham and his second wife, Ruth (Carter), but can find nothing for Rebecca. According to Ruth's death certificate, George Graham (son of William and Rebecca I am guessing) lists Ruth as his step-mother. George was born in 1882, so my best guess is that Rebecca died during child birth as she was listed on the 1881 census but not the 1891. Any help finding out what happened to her would be most appreciated. Thank you!

While the following does not answer your question, is incomplete and rather 'theoretical' in places, the rough notes may be of interest to you.

Thomas.

16. Deacon LEWIS ALBRIGHT b. ca. 1793-5, bpt. 8MAR1806, d. Newcastle Bridge, Northfield Parish, Sunbury Co., NB 16DEC1869 age 74 years, m. 1st REBECCA _____ (b. ca. 1799); m. 2nd ELEANOR (CAROLINE) RAMSEY (b. Newcastle Bridge, Northfield Parish, Sunbury Co., NB15JUN1818 (ca. 1817-9), d. Newcastle Bridge, Northfield Parish, Sunbury Co., NB 29JAN1905).
Living on the Grand Lake, Queens Co., NB in 1851.

Greyham Thomas M Head 33 Scotch June 1821
Greyham Jane F Wife 30 N.B. St. John
Greyham Jennet G. F Daughter 3 N.B. N. Castle
Greyham William B. M Son 17 mos. N.B. N. Castle

Albright Louis M Head 58 N. Brunswick Grand Lake
Albright Rebeccah F Wife 52 N. Brunswick Grand Lake

Greyham Christopher M Father/Widower 77 Scotch Farmer
Greyham John M Son 22 N.B. N. Castle
Greyham Henrietta F Daughter 24 N.B. N. Castle

This suggests that 'Louis' and 'Rebeccah' were just married and living with, or on the land of, her family.
In Northfield Parish, Sunbury Co., NB in 1881, lived Christopher Graham b. ca. 1853, s/o Thomas (ca. 1817) and Jane (ca. 1820) Graham. Thomas was from Scotland and Jane from NB.
Next door was a household headed by Mary A. Ross b. NB ca. 1832, a weaver, Irish and a widow. With her were a number of persons, apparently surnamed Graham including George Albright Graham (ca. 1857) and a Lewis Graham (ca. 1855); with Lewis being an Albright forename derived from Ludovick and variations.
In Northfield Parish in 1871, Mary Ann Ross (ca. 1832) was a widow. Children were 'Ermonguard' (daughter, 9), Horatio W. (7), 'Healdah' B. (5), 'Ellahjane' (3); all surname Ross, and Lewis W. (16) Grahme, Rebecca M. Ross (21) and Stephen D. Ross (17).
There was a Ross family in Sheffield Parish, Sunbury Co., NB in 1851:

Ross Stephen Head 38 N. Brunswick Canning
Ross Grace Wife 34 Scotch June 1822
Ross Edward P. Son 13 N.B. Hardwood Ridge
Ross Mary J. Daughter 12 N.B. Hardwood Ridge
Ross Caroline Daughter 5 N.B. Hardwood Ridge
Ross Margaret A. Daughter 8 N.B. Andover
Ross Rebecca A. Daughter 3 mos. N.B. Hardwood Ridge

That most of the children were b. in Hardwood Ridge suggests what was later Northfield Parish. Stephen and Grace are buried in the Newcastle Bridge Anglican Church Cemetery, Queens Co., NB but no dates seem to have been placed on their headstone. Grace Ross, wife of Stephen D. Ross, d. Northfield Parish 1JAN1860 age 43 years and 6 months leaving a husband and 6 children. Perhaps the sixth was Mary Ann's husband. The Stephen D. Ross, in 1871 b. ca. 1854, may be Stephen Dyer Ross in Carleton Co., NB in 1888 and in Victoria Co., NB in 1882. In 1901, S. D. Ross (17NOV1854) is in Simonds Parish, Carleton Co., NB and seems to be the same person.
Considering the 1881 census, the surnames of Mary Ann Ross' children are questionable. Lewis W. Grahme, in 1871, would be Lewis Graham, in 1881 and likely the Lewis Willard Graham b. NB 19DEC1854, d. Powell River, BC 1NOV1918. His parents, on his death registration, were John Graham and Mary Ann Graham. It seems that Mary Ann b. ca. 1832 m. 1st John Graham, likely a s/o Thomas and Jane Graham or a brother of Thomas Graham. Rebecca M. Ross and Stephen Dyer Ross were likely her 2nd husband's children by his 1st marriage.
John Graham m. Mary A. Scott, both of Sheffield Parish, in Portland Parish, Saint John Co., NB 11NOV1853. Alternatively John Graham and Mary Ann McKim, d/o Robert McKim, all of Petersville Parish, Queens Co., NB. were m. 7FEB1854. This latter John was b. 1833 and d. 19NOV1903. His wife, Mary Ann McKim, was b. 1828 and d. 5JAN1881. In 1851, in Sheffield Parish, Mary A. Scott (b. ca. 1831) was the d/o William (ca. 1792) and Martha (ca. 1793) Scott from Ireland in 1819, living in the Hardwood Ridge area. two households away was the family of Stephen Ross the elder. John 'Greyham' (b. 'N. Castle' (Newcastle Bridge) ca. 1829) was also in Northfield Parish with his father, Christopher, and sister, Henrietta. Rebecca M. Ross (ca. 1850) in 1871 would be the Rebecca A. Ross (age 3 months) d/o Stephen and Grace Ross in 1851. Therefore Martha Ann Scott b. ca. 1832, d/o William and Martha Scott, m. 1st 7FEB1854 John Graham (b. ca. 1829), s/o Christopher Graham; m. 2nd Stephen D. Ross (b. ca. 1813; m. 1st Grace _____ (b. ca. JUN1816, d. 1JAN1860). Mary Ann was also the sister of Jane Scott (ca. 1823 in 1851 and ca. 1820 in 1871), wife of Thomas Graham, brother of John Graham with Jane and Thomas the parents of William Christopher Graham who m. Deacon Albright's daughter, Rebecca.
While Rebecca, Deacon Albright's 1st wife, may not have been a Graham the connection between Lewis Albright and the family of Christopher Albright as neighbours is clear and at least as relatives by marriage is also clear.
This Christopher Graham (b. ca. 1853) was not married in 1881 so Rebecca Albright, his wife, was not either. There were two such, one in Northfield Parish (ca. 1858), d/o Eleanor Albright (ca. 1819, a widow), with a brother, Charles (ca. 1862) The other, in Sheffield Parish, Sunbury Co. (b. ca. 1832) was the wife of Duncan Albright (ca. 1851?).
In 1871 the widow, 'Ellenor' Albright (ca. 1817) had 'Rebbecah (ca. 1858), Charles L. (ca. 1862) and George H. (ca. 1856).
Interestingly, in Sheffield Parish, in 1851, Louis (58) and Rebeccah (52) Albright lived between Thomas (33) and Jane (30) 'Greyham' on one side and Christopher 'Greyham' (77) and family on the other. This elder Christopher arrived in NB JUN1821 and they all lived on or near Grand Lake. Was Eleanor a 2nd wife of Deacon Lewis Albright? Was Rebecca, the first wife, a daughter of Christopher Graham b. ca. 1774?

Newcastle Bridge appears to straddle the county boundary between Sunbury Co. and Queens Co. thus both counties need to be considered.

1621. GEORGE L. GRAHAM b. Minto, Sunbury Co., NB 10FEB1882 (ca. 1882), m. York Co., NB 24JUN1914 WILMINA RICHARDSON (b. River Hébert, Cumberland Co., NS ca. 1895), d/o William and Wilmina (Clarke) Richardson.
