looking for Charters descendants from the Charters Settlement/ New Maryland, York County, New Brunswick
Hello I am searching for descendants of William Charters( born 19 May 1836) and Margaret Jean McCormack. Known children: *Mary Lillian Charters ~ born 20 March 1873 *Charles Archibald Albert Charters ~ born 23 Sept 1875 ( My Grandfather) *Lewis F. Charters ~ born 03 Dec 1879 *William E. Charters ~ born 20 Sept 1877 *Alvin L. Charters ~ born 11 Sept 1882 *Nancy Edna Charters ~ born 26 May 1886 *Annetta M. Charters ~ born 27 Nov 1887 I have found the available censuses online, I have looked through the late registration birth records for N.B.
I would like to make contact with descendants in the hopes of exchanging family information. A trip to N.B. in the future is being planned in the hopes of finding places of residence of my ancestors, possible existing headstones, etc. Places of interest, that would be put into our family tree.
Also is there a Local History Book and/or books for the New Maryland/ Charters Settlement area of New Brunswick?

My grandfather is Alvin Leslie Charters; however, I do not know who his father, William's, father was. Do you know?

William Charters, born 1836 was my gr gr grandmother Margaret Charters brother. They had another full sister, Isabella Charters. Their parents were Archibald Charters and Mary Ann Edgar, both born about 1810. When Mary Edgar died in 1845, Archibald married Mary Jarvis, they had 3 children. Archibald Charters father was William Charters born 1790, Dumfries, Scotland...he stood up with Mary & Archibald when they got married in 1833. Back to Margaret Charters, who married Robert Moore of New Maryland, their son, Irvin Moore, my gr grandfather, married Eva Marie Peabody of Rusagaonis, their daughter, Mary Gertrude Moore was my grandmother. She married Austin Boyle of Waasis. Darrell Boyle, their son, is my dad who lives in Beaver Dam, N. B. I have a brother David who lives in Charters Settlement. I am out in Alberta, do go back yearly, always looking for more info. If I can help more, let me know.

Hi There,
My name is Cindy (Charters) Abbott and I believe that my gr gr gr grandfather was Adam Charters who travelled with his two brothers, William and Archibald, to New Brunswick. I currently live less than 20 minutes from Charters Settlement. I am curious if you have been able to locate birth records from Scotland. I believe they were the sons of John Charter sand Jean Bryden. That is as far back as I can seem to find, as I am very new at this.

Hi Cindy
Currently I am also searching for the Scottish connection. I have found tidbits, but nothing I can verify as of yet. I too believe they are probably the sons of John and Jean. Have you found anything since your post to me?

Re: looking for Charters descendants from the Charters Settlement/ New Maryland, York County, New Brunswick
I just saw your posting today. I know it is over three years since you posted it, but you may still be interested to hear from me. My name is Sean Russell and I am Lewis F. Charters's grandson. So I guess that makes us 2nd cousins once removed. Just one small point of error in your posting. You have the birthdates for Lewis and William Charters reversed. My grandfather was born in 1879 not 1877 and in December not September. I knew of my great uncle Charlie in Saskatchewan but don't believe I ever met him. In 1959 my mother Audrey (Charters) Russell was in Saskatchewan on business and I believe she visited your grandfather or some of the family in Swift Current or near there. Sometime in the early 80's some member of your family (a young man - perhaps yourself) was in Fredericton and looked up my aunt Gladys Charters. There are now no children of Lewis Charters surviving. The last one, my uncle Gordon, died in Feb. 2012. There were 7 children who lived to adulthood and two who died at birth or in early infancy. My mother was Audrey (1921-1960). There were also John (1915-1956), Edward (known as Ned)(1917-1970), Harry (1920-1965), Gladys (1924-1987), Ardith (1927-1979), and Gordon (1930-2012). If you would like more info please feel free to email me at sdr68@hotmail.com. Thanks.
