Thank you for all your info Suzaane and I'll be sure to post back here when I find more facts. I like your observation that "native" on the census has been mistaken as indian. Good one to keep in mind.
I should also note that on the handwritten note from one of Bessie Marigold's children to my aunt she says while writing about the "indian princess" that "Uncle Albert (who would have been Bessie's brother) had it looked up and got a grant because he was part indian".
So another nagging thing that keeps me looking. I'm presuming that was a land grant (he most liklely was living in NS at that time) so I'm trying to track down records of that as if he actually did get a land grant based on genealogy I imagine that may be a great source of info....unless of course someone tells me that fraud was common when getting grants during that time period?:)
I'm also going to look for some of Arthur's descendants to see if they have more info.
