Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
Well, placing David in the Hickey family was done, born 1831, bapt. in 1832.
The problem is identifying the parents of D. Hickey married to Mrs. Layton.
In 1895-99, there is a David Hickey getting married in Restigouche, a widow arriving fron the US. This could be the David you are looking for, or his son.
So, find the David Hickey from Canada who either married in the US, or whose wife died in the US in the 1890s. JP

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
You have first to confirm that David married to Layton is indeed the son of John and Marguerite Lapointe born in 1831. Can you prove that?

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
No not yet...it always points to John and Marguerite, But can't ever get proof, so I've never assumed it to be true. Guess its just always going to be a mystery

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
Did you notice that in the 1881 census David Hickey is living in the home of a Henry Leighton [not spelled Layton at this time]and his wife Ann. You might keep that in mind when searching for birth/marriage records for the wife. These are probably her parents. I also noticed that there were Hickey's living there who's ages are too old to be David's children. Question: Was Hannah his sister or his wife?
Leighton, Henry......79 Leighton, Ann........75 Hickey, David........49 Hickey, Ann..........19 Hickey, Hannah.......42 Hickey, Mary.........30 Hickey, John.........29 Hickey, Thomas W.....16 Hickey, Mary Hannah..14 Hickey, Margaret......9
I found these records: RS141B7 Index to New Brunswick Marriages Name HICKEY, MARY HANNAH Married HANSON, SILAS G. Date 1899 | 07 | 11 (Y-M-D) County SUNBURY Parish---- Number 1816 Reference B4/1899 Microfilm F15589 parents are David Hickey and Margaret Ann Hickey

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
In this 1881 census actually Hannah and Mary are Layton daughters...their ages match perfect...all others are David's children, Joseph and Robert Henry are missing, I'm sure they are living close By . in the 1861 census the Laytons and the Hickeys are living side by side and in the 1871 census there is a Layton living with David and Margaret Hickey.and a Hickey living with Henry and Ann Layton.and in 1891 there are Laytons, Hickeys and Colfords living together. But no David Thank you for continuing to help if you want to e-mail direct its oreo_t25@hotmail.com ( underscore between oreo and t25 that doesn't always show up on here) Carol

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
Interesting about Hannah and Mary. Wonder why the census taker put Hickey as the last name for them?
I'm descended from John & Marguerite's son William Hickey.
Maggie
ps. do you have David Hickey's exact birthdate? Perhaps we could find him in the death or cemetery records for New Brunswick?

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
The thing is that we don't know if our David is a descendant of John's yet??? you have a David born the same year (1831) I have the "Descendents of John Hickey" by Gordon Hickey and he has David Hickey Married to a Marguerite LaPointe with a son George, although he does have on of My David's daughters, but I can't figure out what the relationship is. I have never found a death or cemetery record for either David Hickey or Margaret Layton Carol

Re: John Hickey and Marguerite LaPointe
Hi again,
I made a thorough search on the Hickeys, I will give you some infos here:
John and Marie Heky established in Maria, QC around 1785-1795. For the moment I have 3 kids: + 1) Jean b. ca 1792, married Marguerite Lapointe (Gabriel Audet dit Lapointe and Marie Desnoyers) in 1813 in Maria, QC. 2) Hélène b. April 7, 1795 in Cascapédia, QC. She married Patrick Chesser (George and Mary OLeary) in Percé, QC, in 1811. 3) George b. August 22, 1804 in Cascapédia, QC.
+ 1) Jean and Marguerite Lapointe had their first 7 kids in Maria until 1827, then they moved to Jacquet River, Restigouche, NB where they had another 4 kids.
David Hichey was born on Dec. 6, 1831 In Jacquet River.
The only circumstantiel evidence I could gather to identify David Hickey married to Margaret-Ann Leaton/Leighton/Layton (parents???) in Nelson on June 22, 1856 as being the son of Jean and Marguerite Lapointe is that his brother, Pierre, born on March 8, 1829 married in Nelson on the same date to Margaret Toner (parents???). Pierre then moved to Nash Creek, next to Jacquet River.
David and Margaret Ann had at least 7 kids, mostly in Blackville, Northumberland, NB.
One of their kids, Robert-Henry, born in Nov. 1859, married Minnie Andrew (William and Alison-J. Gerrard) on Jan. 1, 1895, in Campbellton, Restigouche, NB.
One person was mentionning he/she was always coming back to a David Hickey married to a Marguerite Lapointe.
This David Hickey (Alexandre and Anastasie Lapointe) was born in Jan. 1853 in Belledune, Gloucester, NB. he married Marguerite Lapointe (François and Margarite Stivre) on Oct. 1, 1872, in Maria, QC. His cousin Charles (Edouard and Angélic Lapointe) had married Marguerite's sister Marie-Anne on August 12, the same year. His uncle william Hickey was a witness.
Alexandre Hickey, born 1827 in Maria, QC (Jean and Marguerite Lapointe) married Anastasie Lapointe (parents???) on July 8, 1851 in Durham, possibly Jacquet River.
I do not find David Hickey in the 1891 census in Blackville. In the 1881 census, in Blackville, his wife doen't seem to be around. Would anyone know their wherabouts?
Pierre Hickey married to Mary A. Toner had a David born ca Jan. 1867 in Nash Creek. This David married first in Oconto, Wis. USA to Ida Elizabeth Horan (Patrick and Elizabeth Harrison). He remarried on August 28, 1899 in Jacquet River to Sarah Jame Martin (Alexander and Margaret Furlotte).
Let me know if you have more to had or if you are willing to pay to get the rest.
Enjoy!
