Death: 3 Aug 1945, Spooner, Washburn, WI9,28
Burial: 6 Aug 1945, Shell Lake, Washburn, WI28
Occ: Blacksmith
Reli: Roman Catholic

The Washburn Co. Register, on Sept. 12, 1996, noted:
75 Years Ago, 1921:
Peter Saless rented the Thomas Neil blacksmith shop and would begin to carry out the business.

Peter Saless died after he was playing cards with friends in Spooner; the newspaper reported that he was “instantly killed when hit by a car driven by Frank Shellito, also of Shell Lake, at the intersection of River Avenue and Third St. It is presumed that Saless was crossing River Avenue, not seeing the Shellito car which had stopped at the arterial sign on Third St. before turning onto the avenue to continue its trip to Shell Lake after meeting the 10:20 train that night. The pedestrian was not seen by the driver until directly in the path of the car, too late to avert hitting the man. Saless died instantly, having suffered a skull fracture.”

Research: His birthdate is still uncertain. His death certificate indicates he was born 19 Oct 1868. By the ages shown on the various census records,it could have been 1870 (1930), 1872 (1920), or 1877 (1910). He was married in 1908 at age 39, which would put his birth at 1869. Les’s birth certificate in 1923 shows Peter as age 51, which would put his birth at 1872.

Hi Kay;

I don't know where you go the infomation that Henriette Salesse was baptised under the name Harriet. In actual fact, she was indeed baptized under the given name of Henriette, born as you said on 19 January 1869, bapt on 20 January 1869 in St-Francois-Xavier parish church, Charlo, New Brunswick.
Perhaps it's been corrected since 2003, but I thought I'd send you this in case it wasn't.
Hope you don't mind.
