Although John Colwell’s transcription of the baptisms performed by the Rev. Richard Clarke of St. John’s Anglican Church, Gagetown, Queens Co., NB makes it clear that Bernard Manzer Dykeman was a son of Gilbert Hatfield and Dorcas (Manzer) Dykeman; Bernard’s first name appears to have been missed by Jared Handspiker at his compilation on Garret Dykeman’s family at:
http://www.jedh.com/src/genealogy/hpkr/d0003/g0000074.htmlThis suggests he may have gone by his middle name, and a new search parameter. Handspiker suggests that Bernard (or Manzer) married Sophia Smith; but notes that her maiden name is in doubt. B. Dykeman petitioned for land in Cambridge Parish, Queens Co., NB in 1861. In 1865-7 and 1871, B. M. Dykeman lived at the mouth of the Jemseg River in Queens Co., NB, and was a farmer. He may be the Barnet Dykeman bur. St. James’ Anglican Church Cem., Lower Jemseg, Queens Co., NB; in which case, he d. 29SEP1880 age 73 years. He probably had a son, B. M. Dykeman (1868-1932) (actually likely Bennett Manzer Dykeman, s/o James G. and Rebecca J. (Dykeman) Dykeman, b. Jemseg 11DEC1866; who also appears to have gone by his middle name at times) bur. in the same cemetery, and grandson, B. Manzer Dykeman (1899-1990), buried in Fredericton. To add to the confusion, the PANB records gives the names of these later generations as Bennett Manzer Dykeman. The Bennett (b. 1866) mentioned above also appears as Burnet Manzer Dykeman in his death record (3JAN1932.)
From IGI entries, etc., I make him:
BARNETT (BERNARD) MANZER DYKEMAN b. 18APR1807, bpt. by the Rev. Richard Clarke 14JUN1807, d. 29SEP1880, bur. St. James’ Anglican Church Cem., Lower Jemseg, Queens Co., NB, m. The surname, Beyea, is sometimes given as Belyea; but these were two different families; possibly related, but before 1783. In 1851, the name is Beyea, where Martha appears as a widow in Hampton Parish. I cannot find either Barnett not Sophia in the 1881 census of NB. Didn’t look in Maine.
