Since I 'dabble' in a variety of genealogical issues, I tend to focus more on those that are more immediately relevant to myself. When I come up against an issue, such as the Grindell's I am reluctant to spare the time for more in-depth searches (i.e., hours pouring over blurry images on microfilm). If I was in Fredericton with access to the PANB I might attempt spending a day searching through such records such as land records as you suggest; especially petitions.
Alternatively, I can hope that someone has a more personal interest and has done the work that I could only hope t repeat. So I look for the easy way, although, sometimes, repetition is mandatory due to incomplete extractions, transcriptions or interpretations. So your hints and evaluation is most appreciated.
