A Walter Lyon (b. ca. 1813) lived with William P. (ca. 1815) and Esther A. (ca. 1814) Flewelling in Kingston Parish, Kings Co., NB; probably in Moss Glen or Clifton Royal. William Puddington Flewelling was a shipbuilder, and Walter may have worked for him. William Henry Lyon’s nephew and niece were David Alanson Lyon m. Elizabeth Brittain Flewelling and Mary Lyon m. Thomas Brittain Flewelling. Elizabeth B. and Thomas B. were William P.’s 1st cousins once removed. Walter B. Lyon m. 1OCT1850 Catherine Matilda Flewelling, d/o Azor and Maria (Purdy) Flewelling. Catherine was William P.’s 1st cousin. For Catherine I have:
42463. CATHERINE MATILDA FLEWELLING
Catherine Matilda Flewelling (3rd daughter), b. ca. 1828-9, baptized Trinity Anglican Church, Kingston, Kingston Parish, Kings Co., NB 15JUN1828, m. Johnston Parish, Queens Co., NB by the Rev. R. D. Palmer 1OCT1850 Walter B. (Bates?) Lyon (b. ca. JUL1818 (ca. 1819), baptized 6SEP1818?, d. Boston, MA FEB1888 age 69 years, 6 months and 23 days), s/o William Henry and Sarah B. (Jarvis) Lyon (?).
According to the 1851 census of Kingston Parish, Kings Co., NB a Walter Lyon (b. ca. 1813) was living with William P. Flewelling and family. This was William Puddington Flewelling [42441], Catherine's 1st cousin. One might think this to be the same Walter Lyon, except he appears to be unmarried.
When Walter B. Lyon died he left a wife and 8 children. In 1865 he was a hotel Keeper in Saint John. In 1867 he was the proprietor of the Victoria Hotel at 6 Germain St. He does not seem to be in Saint John in the 1871 directory. Probably living in Portland Parish, this makes him difficult to find in 1861 and 1871. This does not mean that the census records did not exist At least one reference places Victoria V. P. Lyon (9) in Kings Ward, Saint John in 1871. This leads to page 120, which lists, from the top of the page, Ida E. (13), Victoria V. P. (9), Isabella D. (8), Lilly H. (6) and Minnie B. (4). At the bottom of page 118 are Walter B. (52) and Catharine M. (42) Lyon, with Margaret L. (18), Annie S. N. (16) and Jarvis A. L. (15). Walter was a hotel keeper, and Margaret, who died 2 years later, was a school teacher.
In the 1880 census, Walter P. Lyon (b. NB ca. 1817) lived in East Boston, Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. His parents were b. NY. Matilda was age 53 and b. NB as were her parents. The eldest son, Jarvis L., was a sailor; Ida E. and Victoria V. P. were sales ladies and Isabella D. was a milliner. All the children were b. NB.
Walter B. Lyon was likely named after Walter Bates of Kingston, Sheriff of Kings Co., NB, who m. Abigail Lyon, d/o of John and Hepzibah (Betts) Lyon. He was also likely Abigail's nephew by one of her brothers, John Lyon m. Sarah Northrup, Reuben Lyon m. Sarah Flaglor, Peter Lyon m. Ruth Tisdell, or William Henry Lyon m. Sarah B. Jarvis. John Lyon had a son, Walter Wilson Lyon b. 1810.
Children:
424631. LOUISA MARGARET (MARGARET L.) LYON (eldest daughter) b. ca. 1852-3, d. Indiantown, Portland Parish, Saint John Co., NB 6OCT1872 age 20 years.
424632. ANNIE S. M. (SASRAH MIARAH?) LYON (2nd daughter) b. JUL1854 (ca. 1855), d. 1918, m. Saint John, Saint John Co., NB 20APR1874 JAMES HANFORD LENT (b. ca. 1851, d. 1925), s/o James and Sarah Elizabeth (Brinton) Lent.
Hanford was from Freeport, NS. This appears to be Hanford Lent b. NS ca. 1851, in Freeport, Digby Co., NS in 1881, a shoemaker. His wife was Annie (26, b. NB) and children were “Llyellyan” (6, b. NS), Shippey (4, b. NS) and Harry (1), b. NS.
Llewellyn Lyon Lent was b. Freeport 23JAN1875, s/o James H. and Annie (‘Lyons’) Lent. He d. 9FEB1939, and is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bremerton, Kisap Co., Washington State. “The Digby Courier”, ca. APR1910 had an article:
“Messrs. P. F. Lent and Emil Gauch, and the business will be henceforth conducted at the old stand 108 West Broadway, under the firm name of the Lent-Gauch Plumbing Company. Mr. Percy F. Lent will be in active charge of the affairs of the new concern, and he is a practical plumber of many years experience, thorough in every way, and a good business man besides. Attention will be given to plumbing and pipe fitting in all its branches, installation of complete outfits and all work will be guaranteed to be the best. (Mr. Lent above referred to is the 4th son of Mr and Mrs. James Hanford Lent, formerly of Freeport, Digby County, but now residents of Bremerton, Washington, where Mr. Lent conducts a real estate business. He likes the west very much, particularly in regard to climate. The eldest son, Llewellyn L., is a prominent business man of Bremerton, where he is a councilman and school director, and does a large plumbing business; the second son, Shippy B., is a government clerk, having full charge of all the general merchandise of the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Washington, the 3rd son, Harry M., lives in Boston and is also a plumber, while the youngest son, Arthur J., who recently married a Newton young lady, is superintendent of construction for the National Boiler Washing Company, of Chicago).”
P. F. Lent is Percy Frank Lent b. Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts 28AUG1884. Also in 1910 was an article:
“A SUCCESSFUL FREEPORT BOY
LLEWELLYN L. LENT HAS JUST COMPLETED AN $80,000
CONTRACT IN THE WEST
“A Freeport boy, Llewellyn L. Lent, has just completed an $80,000 contract of a 6 mile sewer in the town of Charlestown adjoining the famous Puget Sound navy yard and also the city of Bremerton, Washington. Mr. Lent has been complimented by the mayor and head officials of the town on the systematic and complete way the work has been done. Ninety men were at work most of the time, under the superintendence of his brother, P. F. Lent. Mr. Lent came to Bremerton 6 years ago with his wife and 2 sons. He has met with such good success that outside of the sewer work, he has a well stocked plumbing shop, which his younger brother, A. J. Lent, is in charge of. He also owns an up-to-date 7 room bungalow and several lots of land. Mr. Lent is noted for his enterprise and perseverance. Mr. L. L. Lent, is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs. James Hantford Lent, formerly of Freeport, but now of Bremerton, Washington.”
L. L. Lent was, later that year, awarded contracts to build Keyport Naval Torpedo and a naval magazine. The mayor of Bremerton (elected 2013), Patty Lent, may be related.
Byron Shippy Lent was b. Freeport 11DEC1875 (at least, that is the date his birth record give).
The Lent’s may be connected to the Outhouse family, distant cousins of the Flewelling’s. Hanford may have derived his name from Hantford Outhouse.
The Port Orchard, “Independent”, 20SEP2012 had an article, “Families with pioneer roots honored by historical society”, including:
Bremerton
“James Hanford Lent (1851–1925) and Annie Lyon (1854–1918) of Nova Scotia, had seven children. In 1909, they came to Bremerton, following four of their sons. Since then, four generations have participated in the family plumbing business and served the community in various ways: state legislator, chamber of commerce, fire chief, Elks, Charleston City Councilman, Bremerton mayor and many other organizations of benefit to the community.
“Shippy Brinton Lent, after serving with the Marines in Peking during and after the Boxer Rebellion, was discharged in Bremerton in 1904. He decided to stay here and persuaded the others to join him. Shippy married Margaret Maud Allgood, in Bremerton, in 1905. They had one daughter, Anna Mabel. After helping Lou start the family plumbing business, he sold his half-interest and started The Star Messenger Service. He began serving in the fire department in 1907 and was appointed fire chief in 1920, in charge of five full-time firemen. That same year the department moved to the new city hall and bought a Stutz pumper truck that combined chemical pumping and hose truck capable of pumping 1,000 gallons of water a minute. After his 1936 retirement from the fire department after 26 years, he worked as a city building inspector for the Housing Authority and did a short stint as a process server for the Bremerton courts. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge No. 1181 and the Spanish American War Veterans.”

Azor lived in Johnston Parish, in Queens Co., which is why you cannot find him in 1851. When married, Walter was living in Hampton Parish, Kings Co., NB.
I have added something on the Lent family but haven’t had time to clean it up. I imagine a great deal more could be added.
