I'm in the process of writing a book for the New Brunswick Military History Series (Fredericton: Goose Lane) about the contribution of Queens County to the Great War. Most of the book has been written, but I'm always on the lookout for additional stories, sources, and images. Topics include recruitment, local industry (farming and mining), patriotic organizations, and the bond between those at home and those serving abroad. My deadline for submission is January 1st, so if anyone has first-hand accounts, letters, or wartime diaries they would like to share, I would be more than pleased to speak with you. I'm particularly interested in images, both of men and women in uniform and period pictures of the home front, that could be used in the book. Publication is slated for the summer of 2015.

Nothing new to contribute, Mr Mainville, but do you have research on Nursing Sister, Catherine Finley Derrah (nee Gardiner), who served in WWI?

What a fascinating question. In fact, I just happened to write a whole undergraduate paper on her! She is a truly remarkable women, and I've devoted parts of two paragraphs to Catherine in my new book. Are you related to her? I tried to trace her family a while back. I believe she had one son, but that was about as far as I could take it. I never did find her obituary. I don't suppose you've got any wartime pictures of her, do you? In any case, why don't we continue this conversation directly. You can reach me at Curtis_Mainville@hotmail.com.
