Will you be posting pictures of last Sunday's celebration? I have been checking the Facebook page of Chipman but haven't seen anything. My family from Michigan and Illinois attended but they haven't posted any info yet. Thank You! Lois Leah Langin

Debra,
you seem to have some knowledge of the Gaspereau Forks area. I'm trying to find out if the land across from the blueberry farm on the east gaspereau road was ever farmed. there is a small white house and then a plantation of pine trees. the land in question is on the east side of the gaspereau river. it looks like at one time it was farmland, I've been told that it was all one big farm and then was subdivided and sold. If you have any information it would be appreciated.

thanks, Peter

Peter,

The property you are asking about originally would have been part of the Israel Perley land grant dating back to 1786. In 1861 and likely long before that date the William Conroy family were living on the property however it was much larger then it is today. I believe it started somewhere around the gas line up river some ways, however I am not positive how far up river. On the river side of the Gaspereau East Road back then next to the Conroy family would have been the Bishop family. Donald Hasson bought some of the land which includes the white house you mention about 1911. I am not sure if the Hasson's bought all the Conroy land as it may have been sold in sections at the time or before.

The land would have been farmed by the Conroy's and some by the Hasson family. The flat at the river after spring may have been used for sheep or cattle as it floods every spring to the point it disappears.

Peter, are you the gentleman who owns the land adjacent to the white house. My husband and I live up river and other family live on the road also. If you would like to contact me directly my email is debra@lloyd.ca. I can put you in contact with a lady who lived on the property and has a great picture of the land back in the day.

Debra
