Rhonda, I am sorry if Jared and I came off a bit harsh. We are seasoned researchers and find death certificates very frustrating as the informant gets mixed up under the stress of the death or sometimes the informant is not even related to the deceased.

Your William Emerson Ferris is a case in point. The informant Clarence was the youngest of his children, and used his mother's name as William's mothers name. Your William was the son of James Henry Ferris and Sarah Elizabeth Drillen. James and Sarah were married 28 Dec1847 in Queens County. We don't know who Sarah's parents are, but James Henry is the son of George Ferris and Jane Blizzard.

Figuring out James Henry Ferris is quite the challenge because he had three wives. And James outlived them all.

Rhonda and Sara,

Just to be clear, after working this Drillen line with Linda Drilling, it would surely seem that Sarah is one of the children of Thomas Drillen (wife not known).Thomas died by around 1853, and is also considered the father of 6 other children, including Hiram and Conrad Drillen, who were the only two sons and male progenitors of the Drillin, Drillen, Drilling lines in Queens Co, NB. Sarah would therefore have been their sister.

I should point out, this is not a family I, myself, have done extensive research on, but there was a period of time Linda and I spent sorting through the Drillien/Ferris (Farris) connections.

Thanks you both for responding again. Well one could definitely take offense at the few screws lose if I didn't agree myself. I sent the query in the first place as it seems there is limited information especially on-line for new Brunswick. I agree with you both about later certifications of births and my impression was that it wasn't error but lies. I have found one Ferris who seems to have 3 birthday and I believe one of the people that vouched wasn't even who she claimed to be.
I have also ran across many family trees and seen James Henry Ferris to a Drillion, Drillon, Drillen & Miller. Because I have not be able to find anything substantial myself I have to guess that people are taking the first thing they see and using it. This is the first that I heard of there being a third wife of James Henry Ferris, I read of Sarah & Mary Jane but even with those two there is only bits and pieces so I was afraid people were assuming stuff. I have seen trees showing that James married Sarah December 1847 but had not personally found the record of it so wasn't sure it was true. I have read many of your posts and you both seem to do thorough searches but felt I needed to ask as I am one to resource all my information.
I did figure out that James Henry Ferris on one certificate was a brother and that of Mary Drouse too. Sadly because education wasn't the same back then and the censuses were not so accurate I know it can be difficult. It also seems very limited as to what is actually on-line for New Brunswick as compared to other provinces. What I have figured out it this is one very confusing family to research when I have seen so many last names of wives but with your information I am hoping to be able to sort some of it out. I wasn't sure if the Miller was just a mistake and was possibly confused with Drillen as they certainly didn't have a handle on birth dates whether deliberate or by mistake. I do thank you both very much for trying to clear some of these matters up for and no offense was ever taken as I too know it can be very frustrating. May I ask one further question, the marriage for Sarah & James of Dec 1947, was this found doing and independent research in libraries etc as I have never found it on-line.
Again thank you so much for responding to my questions as every little bet helps to clarify some of my own thoughts. I appreciate any help I can get and am always willing to help out when I can.
Rhonda

Rhonda,

Got the date from R. Wallace Hale's book on Queens County marriages. You can likely find one for sale, if you're doing much mid 19th century families in Queens County. Search on:

"Queens County New Brunswick Marriages, 1812-1861"

It's the 1986 paperback version. I've seen it listed as both Volume One and Volume A, depending on the listing.

It's proven an invaluable resource, but just now, I can't find my copy! :-)

Jumping in with possibly extraneous information...
I've been trying to trace the Ferris/Farris people in New Brunswick and Maine.
I suggest Martha Ford Barto's book "Passamaquoddy: Genealogies of the West Isles Families", specifically pages 73-77. You probably already know this but it might clear up some confusion with the Sunbury clan because i also find the names repetitive.
She also wrote "The Flagg Family of Grand Manan" but I don't remember if it lists any Ferris/Farris in it. I found it at https://books.familysearch.org
Good luck,
Alice
