Patrick John Hughes married Mary Dwyer, daughter of Thomas Dwyer and Mary Moran, in 1871. They had at least seven children: Arthur 1873, Thomas 1874, Mary 1875, Ellen 1879, Margaret 1885, Rose 1885, and Theresa 1887.
