I am looking for information on my father's birth mother. He was born on July 07, 1943 in Sussex, Kings, New Brunswick, Canada. His birth name was Paul Edward Williams (his mother's maiden name) he has a brother, Alfred and a sister Betty, both who's birth names were Ellison. They were adopted when Paul was 12 years old by Charles and Caroline Paresson and brought to Portland, Maine. Any there are also other siblings, unknown names and locations. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Well, one possible marriage is that of Victor Roy Ellison (b. Apahoqui, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 23MAY1913 (ca. 1911-13)), son of Sylvester Earl and Matilda Jane (Jones) Ellison. He married Cardwell Parish, Kings Co., NB 16JUL1932 Dora Williams (b. Penobsquis, NB ca. 1914), the daughter of William and Charlotte (O’Blenis) Williams. William Williams was supposedly from Salisbury, probably Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB. Witnesses to their marriage were Harry Williams and Mrs. H. I. Williams. See also:
http://archives.gnb.ca/Search/VISSE/141A1b.aspx?culture=en-C...
Although, when Dora Williams married, William Williams was given as from Salisbury, a death record for William H. Williams (b. Apohaqui, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB ca. JAN1831, d. Apohaqui 23OCT1897 age 66 years and 10 months) suggests that he was from Kings Co.

William (age 43) and Charlotte (38) Williams were in Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB in 1861.

Matilda (Jones) Ellison, wife of Sylvester Ellison, was b. Erb Settlement, Kings Co., NB 10MAR1897, and d. Sussex, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 12JUL1936 age 49 years, 4 months and 1 day and was a d/o Perley Smith and Deborah (Hicks) Jones. Perley was from Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB. Actually he was:

PELEG SMITH JONES b. 1APR1833, d. Moncton, NB 25DEC1913, m. 1st LAVINIA BARTER (b. ca. 1834); m. 2nd 21JAN1877 DEBORAH HICKS (b. McKee’s Mills, Kent Co., NB 11SEP1847, d. McLean Settlement, Kent Co., NB 28MAR1936), d/o Ida and Matilda (Abrams) Hicks.
In 1881 Peleg (farmer, b. ca. 1833) and ‘Debrah’ (b. ca. 1848) are in Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB. Children are: Charles (carpenter, ca. 1856), George (blacksmith, ca. 1858), Frank (fireman (i.e., on railroad?) ca. 1860), Willard (farmer, ca. 1862) and Olivia (ca. 1878.) They are English, b. NB and Free Will Baptist (Deborah a Calvinist Baptist.)
They are in Moncton, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1901 census. ‘Peley’ is b. 1APR1833; his wife, Deborah, was b. 11SEP1846, but age 54, so 1847 is probably correct. Children were: Olivia (7NOV1877), James Melborn (4MAR1881), Emmie (18MAR1883), John (9APR1885) and Millie (10MAR1887.)

See a rather outdated compilation on the Joneses at:

Victor Roy Ellison is mentioned at:
http://www.mattatallvarnerfh.com/obituaries/83037
Whether this is the same is not clear.

Sylvester Earl Ellison (or, in one case, Sylvester Roy Ellison) was in Studholme Parish, Kings Co., NB in 1901 as:

Ellison Edward M Head M Mar 17 1843 58
Ellison Lucy F Wife M Dec 28 1867 44
Ellison Salvister E M Son S Jul 18 1878 22
Ellison Mary H F Daughter S Jun 5 1882 19
Ellison Charles E M Son S Jun 15 1884 17
Ellison Edna E F Daughter S Aug 21 1886 15
Ellison Ida M F Daughter S May 18 1888 13

Ellison George D M Son S Jul 17 1892 9
Ellison John H M Son S Jan 1 1894 7
Ellison Roy V M Son S Mar 9 1897 4

Edward was Edward Jones Ellison and his wife was Lucy Kierstead. Edward Jones Ellison was b. Sussex Parish 17MAR1842, d. 21JUN1924 and was the son of George and Mercy Ann (or C.) (Jones) Ellison. See:

There is a family, surnamed Haines (Haynes, Hayns, Hains) descended from Godfret Hans who lived in Rye, Westchester Co., NY. In searching for members of this family I made notes that may interest you. The first is:

WILLIAM HAINES b. England ca. 1795, m. ABIGAIL _____ (b. NB ca. 1798).
William was a shoemaker in Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1851 census. Apparently not a member of the family studied here, having arrived in NB in 1825. There were Haines' in the Moncton area later, so it may be useful to be able to distinguish his family.
One child may have been Mary Ann Haines b. ca. 1833, who d. Moncton 13FEB1848 age 15 years. Another may have been Mary Haines b. ca. 1839, servant to John and Ann Mansor in Moncton Parish in 1851.
William may be the William Haines in the Westmorland County Probate Index for 1870-2 (PANB microfilm F-11549). There also was a William Haines of Moncton involved in ship-building. This William was b. in the United States and had a son, Capt. Hiram Haines, who d. while commanding their ship, 'Louisa', of yellow fever in the West Indies.
Children:

1. HANNAH HAINES (eldest daughter), m. Moncton, Westmorland Co., NB by the Rev. R. A. Chesley 25DEC1849 JOHN F. GODERE.
John F. Godere, at the time of marriage, was from Nantes, France. He apparently stayed in Moncton, and in JAN1891 was in Bear Creek, NS visiting friends. A son was likely Frank Godere of Moncton who m. 5DEC1881 Minnie J. Chappey of Eastport, ME.
2. SUSANNAH HAINES b. ca. 1837

Possibly related was:

JAMES HANES b. NB ca. 1805, m. RUTH _____ (b. NB ca. 1821).
Children:

1. JAMES (ROBERT) ISAIAH (J). HAINES b. NB ca. 1848-50, m. MARY JANE O'BLENIS (b. NB 10JUL1850 (ca. 1851)).
In Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1881. All were Scottish (except Mary J. who was English), b. NB and Baptist.
In 1901, M. Jane OBlens ('D', for divorced?) is in Salisbury Parish with her Haines children. She is also Jane M. O'Blenis 'D' in 1911, but has a daughter, Quincey Haines, b. AUG1904.
M. Jane Haynes b. Scott Road, NB 20JUL1850, d. Westmorland Co., NB 7JUN1932 age 81 years, 11 (?) months and 18 days. She is given as the d/o George and 'Sharlotte (Lewis) O'Blenis of Dorchester.
In 1851, in Dorchester Parish, Westmorland Co., NB, Mary Blenis (ca. 1850) was the da/o George (ca. 1826) and Charlotte (ca. 1830) Blenis. In 1871, in Salisbury Parish, James J. Hines (ca. 1848) and Mary J. (ca. 1851) lived next to her parents, George (ca. 1826) and Charlotte (ca. 1832) Blenis.
In Salisbury Parish, in 1851, Isaiah Hanes (ca. 1848) is the s/o James (ca. 1805) and Ruth (ca. 1821) Hanes.
Children:

11. LOTTIE HAINES b. ca. 1875
12. JOHN HAINES b. ca. 1877
13. JOHN RICHARD HAINES b. Salisbury, Westmorland Co., NB 12FEB1883
14. ANNIE HAINES b.11JAN1879 (JAN1881)
15. GEORGE ALBERT HAINES b. Westmorland Co., NB 21JUL1882 (birth record, 21JUL1887 in 1901, JUL1889 in 1911)
16. WILLIAM LUTHER HINES/HAINES b. Salisbury, Westmorland Co., NB 12FEB1883, d. Westmorland Co., NB 23JAN1954
17. ELLA MAY HINES b. Salisbury, Westmorland Co., NB 27MAY1890, m. MAUD LEMAN
18. QUINCEY HAINES b. AUG1904

I think I can build on this a bit.

Thomas.

JAMES HUNTLEY (HUNTLEY JAMES) HANES (HINES) b. NB ca. 1805-7, m. Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 16SEP1847 RUTH BABCOCK (b. NB ca. 1821-3), d/o Henry and Eleanor (Blakney) Babcock.
James may be the James Hines who d. Elgin Parish, Albert Co., NB 22APR1887.
Children:
1. JAMES (ROBERT) ISAIAH (J). HAINES (HINES) b. NB ca. 1848-50, m. MARY JANE O'BLENIS (b. NB b. Scott Road, NB 20JUL1850 (10JUL1850 in 1901, ca. 1851), d. Westmorland Co., NB 7JUN1932 age 81 years, 11 (?) months and 18 days), d/o George Taylor and Charlotte Rosanna (Lewis) O'Blenis.
In 1851, in Dorchester Parish, Westmorland Co., NB, Mary Blenis (ca. 1850) was the d/o George (ca.
James was a blacksmith and he and Ruth were born in England and so were not descended from Godfret Hans.
In Salisbury Parish in 1861, James Huntley (54) and Ruth (38) ‘Hines’ had a son, James Isaiah Hines (12). In this case, all were born in NB.
In Salisbury Parish, in 1871, James I. (23) and Mary J. (20) Hines lived next to George (45) and Charlotte (39) O’Blenis and their children. James and Mary had a son, Archibald (NOV1870).
In Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1881. All were Scottish (except Mary J. who was English), b. NB and Baptist.
In 1891, in Salisbury Parish, ‘Isiah’ (50) and Jane (45) Haines had Lottie (16), ‘Johnie’ (14), Luther (10), George (8), Ella (7) and Calvin (1 month).
She is given as the d/o George and ‘Sharlotte’ (Lewis) O'Blenis of Dorchester.
George Taylor O’Blenis m. 1st Mary Jane Melvin and m. 2nd 2SEP1847 Charlotte Rosanna Lewis, so it seems Charlotte was Mary Jane O’Blenis’ mother.
Children:
11. ARCHIBALD HAINES b. NOV1870.
12. CHARLOTTE (LOTTIE) MARY HAINES b. Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 12AUG1878 (in 1901, ca. 1875-6, AUG1879 in 1911), m. Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 29AUG1897 WILLIAM WILLIAMS (b. Bristol, England 22MAY1867 (ca. 1868, MAY1869 in 1911), d. Kings Co., NB 4SEP1945 age 73 years), s/o Mathers and Mary Williams.
It appears that William was killed from skull fractures by being struck by a train. This does not seem to have been all that rare of an occurrence. The shortest route for a pedestrian in some places was likely by the railroad tracks. he worked up until 1AUG1845, so does not appear to have been in unusually poor health.
William and Charlotte M. Williams were in Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1901 with children Nettie and Harry. Also an adopted son, Norman Sullivan (27JAN1893).
William (MAY1869) and Lottie (AUG1879) Williams were in Cardwell Parish, Kings Co., NB in 1911. Children were Norman (JAN1895), Nett (AUG1899), Harry (SEP1900), Stella (JUN1902), Mary (DEC1903) and Gladys (FEB1908).
The 1921 census of Cardwell Parish is difficult to reach. It looks like William (39?) and Lottie (38) Williams with children Nettie (22), Henry (20), ‘Gladis’ (12), Dora? (5) and Laura?? (?).
Children:
121. NORMAN SULLIVAN WILLIAMS b. Salisbury Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 1APR1892 (27JAN1893 in 1901, ca. 1896, JAN1895 in 1911), m. Saint John Co., NB 19JUN1916 PEARL HODGIN (b. St. Martins Parish, Saint John Co., NB ca. 1898), d/o Samuel Henry and Bertha M. (Ross) Hodgin.
When he married Pearl, Norman gave his name as Norman Sullivan Williams, s/o Norman Sullivan Williams and of Lottie Hines. I suspect that he father was just Norman Sullivan. He was a private soldier and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in December 1915 at the recruiting centre in Sussex, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB. he first gave his next-of-kin as his mother, Lottie M. Williams of Penobsquis, NB, and this was crossed out and replaced with Mrs. Pearl Williams of 25 Brunswick St., Saint John, apparently after his marriage.
122. NETTIE WILLIAMS b. 11AUG1898 (AUG1899 in 1911).
123. HENRY (HARRY) ISAIAH WILLIAMS b. Penobsquis, Kings Co., NB 24SEP1899 (SEP1900 in 1911).
124. STELLA WILLIAMS b. JUN1902 (ca. 1901 when married), m. Moncton Parsh, Westmorland Co., NB 11OCT1920 HARRY DOUTHWRIGHT (b. ‘Forestill’, Albert Co., NB ca. 1893-4; m. 2nd 9JUL1960 Marion Marie Faye), s/o Henry and Jerusha Anna (Berry) Douthwright.
125. MARY WILLIAMS b. Penobsquis, Kings Co., NB 25DEC1903
126. GLADYS ORA WILLIAMS b. Penobsquis, Kings Co., NB 26FEB1908, m. Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 7OCT1933 WILLARD VAUGHN METCALFE (b. Moncton, Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB ca. 1910), s/o Jasper and Frances Maud (Raynor) Metcalfe.
127. DORA MARIE WILLIAMS b. Penobsquis, NB 5DEC1914 (ca. 1914), m. 1st Cardwell Parish, Kings Co., NB 16JUL1932 (divorced) VICTOR ROY ELLISON (b. Apahoqui, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 23MAY1913 (ca. 1911-13)), son of Sylvester Earl and Matilda Jane (Jones) Ellison; m. 2nd St. Paul’s Parsonage, Sussex, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB EVERETT PROCTOR (b. Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 23MAY1913 (ca. 1912-15); m. 2nd? Bessie May Blair (b. Truro, NS 13MAY1919, d. Tatamagouche, NS 15OCT2013)), s/o John Catherine (McEwen) Proctor.
Everett only gave his mother when married and that mother may be the Catherine Proctor, widow of John Proctor, who was b. 10OCT1865 the d/o John and Sarah (Morrie) McEwen, who died Sussex, Sussex Parish, Kings Co., NB 24OCT1950. John Proctor (28JAN1860-28APR1938) was a s/o William and Eliza (Parlee) Proctor. Since, in 1921, John and Catherine had a son, Everett (ca. 1915), I assumed these were his parents.

1271. PAUL EDWARD WILLIAMS.
1272. ALFRED _____.

Macaan, Cumberland Co., NS 17MAR1901 (in birth record; 17MAR1897 in 1901 census, ca. 1898); m. 1st _____), d/o James Dean and Christina (Rector) Matheson (Matherson).
His birth record gives his father as James Isaiah Hines.
14. ETHEL ANNIE HAINES b.11JAN1879 (JAN1881, ca. 1880, 6JAN1881 in 1901), m. Westmorland Co., NB 17JAN1898 HARRY PHILLIPS (b. Petitcodiac, Westmorland Co., NB 20MAY1881 (ca. 1878)), s/o William Henry (Harry) and Maria Elizabeth Phillips.

The birth record (registered in 1952) of William Luther Hines gives his father as Robert Hines. His marriage record gives his parents and Robert and Jane Haines.
17. ELLA MAY HINES b. Salisbury, Westmorland Co., NB 27MAY1890 (ca. 1884, ca. 1890), m. Westmorland Co., NB 22MAY1907 TRUEA BANNISTER (b. ca. 1887), s/o Bunyan and Margaret Bannister.
Her birth record gives her father as Robert Isaiah Hines. George Albert Hines (as he signed himself) attested to her birth in 1957.
