Ranald McDonald descendants and researchers
I am a descendant of Ward McDonald, born Cork, Ireland in 1792, emigrated to the Miramichi in 1818. I have had my father's DNA tested and it shows that he is a descendant of the Clan chiefs and is a close match for Ranald A. MacDonald, the current chief of Clanranald. One of the most likely branches which he may be descended from is Ranald, 1st of Benbecula who had a son Angus Mor, of Ballypatrick, Ireland born earlier 1600's. Does anyone know if there has been a descendant of Ranald who has had their DNA tested or anyone who is interested in doing so?

Re: Ranald McDonald descendants and researchers
Clan Ranald was in Canada a few years ago at a Clan Donald Meeting I attended. He has not been back since.
If you would like to contact Clan Donald members, just go to the website CLAN DONALD CANADA and it will give you a list of officers who could help you with this question, ie BRUNDAGE MACDONALD, BARRY CLYDE MACDONALD, and also JOHN PYKE is on Facebook and is very well acquainted with CLAN RANALD moreso than the others.
Hope this helps.

Re: Ranald McDonald descendants and researchers
I think I recall my father once telling me that Ranald McDonald (an English teacher in Japan) is my ancestor, and he taught there approximately 1842 (to the best of my recollection). Note: The surname was later changed to MacDonald. If anyone out there knows anything about a Ranald McDonald who taught English in Japan around that time, I'd be grateful getting a message from you.

Re: Ranald McDonald descendants and researchers
My father has told me that we are descendant from Ranald McDonald, however I have never had a DNA test. If at some future time I get a DNA test I could let you know. Best regards, Robert MacDonald (surname was changed from McDonald to MacDonald)
