Mayberry/Maybury of Richibucto, Kent Co.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get access to Richibucto marriage records for 1842-1854? I am looking for information on Jacob Mayberry or Maybury and Eliza ?. Jacob was born about 1809 in Maine and moved to Richibucto before 1837. His first wife was Nancy; I don't know where she was born or when/where they married. She died in 1842, after which he married his second wife, Eliza, who was from New Brunswick. Their first child was born in 1854. Jacob and his wives lived in Richibucto most of their lives, and he and his first wife are buried there in the Protestant cemetery.

I am trying to find out who Jacob's father was. There are lots of Mayberrys/Mayburys in Maine whose genealogy has been traced back to Ireland, and I would like to establish a link to them if possible. Many thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Gwen Harrison

Gwen,
The early Kent marriage register is lost. The second register (1845-1860) was found in a junk shop in Vancouver BC in 1945 and sent to the New Brunswick Museum. It records the marriages of Ann Mayberry of Richibucto to William Lawton, 1851, and Harriet Mayberry of Richibucto to Robert Jones, 1859. They were children of Jacob and Nancy (Sproul) Mayberry.

Jacob Mayberry m. 15 September, 1834, Annapolis County, NS; to Nancy Sproul, daughter of John Sproul and Ann Parker of Wilmot, N.S. They moved to Richibucto, NB, where Jacob Mayberry was a tinsmith. Two of Nancy's nephews named Phinney were also tinsmiths in Richibucto; another nephew named Miller also lived in NB for a while. Her brother Elliott Sproul married Eleanor Cripps of Sussex, NB, and her sister Diademia married Jasper Belding Sproul of Sussex, NB - a cousin.

Jacob m2. 1842-1845; to Mary Eliza WILT and according to 1861 & 1871 Census records they had children:
Rebecca 1846
Maria 1848
Cecilia 1853
William H. 1858
Gertrude 1865

According to the Richibucto Review, Mary Eliza Mayberry d. in Everett, Mass., in 1903.

Hello,

I am currently working on a project to designate 13 historical places in the Town of Richibucto (Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada). In one our historical place, the neighbours are Phinney, tinsmith (Cunard Street).

Do you have any more informtion on the Phinney family? Any relatives still living today?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Based on information received from Greg Haley (see post above), the Mr. Phinney you mention is a nephew of mine and Greg Haley's ancestor, Nancy Sproul. Nancy was the daughter of John Sproul and Ann Parker of Wilmot, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Nancy's nephew, Mr. Zaccheus Phinney, was born in Nova Scotia, but moved to Richibucto NB and worked as a tinsmith. Nancy's husband, Jacob Maybury, was also a tinsmith, and also had a shop on Cunard St. Perhaps they were partners?

Regretfully, I do not have any information on Mr. Phinney's direct descendants. I do, however, have extensive information on the descendants of Jacob Maybury and Nancy Sproul, including living descendants. I have pictures of Jacob Maybury as well.

Let me know if you have additional interest.
