I have located who I believe is my grandfather
Robert James Hutchinson born 1881 St John, married to
Catherine A King born 1890, son Robert King Hutchinson.
His son Robert Paul Hutchinson.

I believe my great-grandfather would be Robert Hutchinson
born March 25, 1855 and married to Annie Hutchinson.

Robert James and Catherine King first children were Mary
Lenore born July 1904 and Ronald King born July 1908 both
in St John< New Brunswick. Robert King hutchinson and his
twin sister Shirley were also born there but I am unable
to obtain their baptisimal certificates as yet.

Robert James Hutchinson and Catherine King Hutchinson
immigrated to the United States throgh Boston, I believe,
in 1926 and migrated to Queens County, New York. Many of
the names on the -hummer457 - posts are familiar to me
during my own research and are of interest.

The last known addres of Robert and Catherine in Canada
was 448 Main Street, St John, New Brunswick. Ronald King
and Mary Lenore were baptized at St Peter's Church in St
John.

Robert James and Catherine King Hutchinson are buried at
St Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, New York. They passed
away in 1951 and 1959 respectfully.

Any information I can glean in the future would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank You,

Abuman

The name "Hutchinson" is also spelled without the "n" in some records.
Their marriage certificate of 17 Nov 1903 indicates Robert was born in New Brunswick [probably Kent County] and residing in Saint John. His parents were listed as Robert and Mary Hutchinson but census records, such as the 1881 for Weldford, Kent County, New Brunswick may suggest Mary Ann...
Catherine King parents were listed as Charles and Mary King. They are listed as retired in the 1901 census for Saint John. Their religion listed as Catholic.
The Saint John burial permits -on line - lists the death of Ronald King Hutchison [note spelling]on 7 June, 1912. On the original record he died at 3 years and 11 months. His father listed as Robert J Hutchison and he's is buried in the old Catholic cemetery in Saint John. That would be the reason he does not show up in the latter US census.
The 1911 census for Saint John lists
Hutchison, Robert aug 1881 RC occ blacksmith
Hutchison, Catherine b March 1885
Hutchison, Lenore July 1904
Hutchison, Ronald July 1908.
The Maine marriage records on line from the Maine Archive site lists a Mary L Hutchinson from Moncton, New Brunswick to Percy Sabine of Bangor, Maine on 24 October 1920. One would have to contact the Maine Archives to obtain a copy of the record to see who her parents were.
Hope this helps

Hi Bobby,

The Drouin Collection of Acadia births, marriages, and deaths has a record of their marriage. I have access through Ancestry.com. It's only an image though, so I'll transcribe the record for you:

1903 - Comte (that's County in French) St. Jean (Saint John)
Groom: Hutchinson, Robert, age 31 residence: Saint John, birthplace: New Brunswick, bachelor, profession: mechanic, parents: Robert & Mary
Bride: King, Catherine, age 23, residence: Saint John, birthplace: Saint John, spinster, parents: Chas & (illegible - could be Mary or Har..)

Given the above, the possible 1901 census record for Catherine (Kate) might be:
District: NB SAINT JOHN (#21)

This is posted from "thehutchman" aka "abuman",

With further research and collected documents I have come up with a somewhat clearer picture of my Canadien Family tree, albeit, more fuzzier areas also. Going backwards, my name is Robert Paul Hutchinson, father-Robert King Hutchinson (twin is Shirley Catherine). Grand-father Robert James Hutchinson AKA Hutchison. Great-grandfather Robert W Hutchinson. All born in New Brunswick, Canada. Robert James was married to Catherine Agnes King. On her death certificate it is stated that her Father's name was Charles King and her Mother was Mary Moore. I have looked up their relations but cannot find Catherine Agnes in that lineage. It does seem to me that her friend or sister was Monica King**. Catherine King's death certificate also states DOB 25 November 1890, DOD 2 December 1959 here in Flushing, New York. Robert James Hutchinson death certificate states DOB 31 August 1881 but I also have an Alien Registration Card that states DOB 20 August 1881, and I believe he filled out the card. His DOD is 21 November 1951 also in Flushing, NY. His Father's name is stated Robert W and his Mother's name as Mary Quint. His occupation was Blacksmith. Robert and Catherine came to the United States via ship (Governor Dingley), 26 August 1926 and resided in Queens, New York. Last known address in NB was 448 Main Street, Saint John. **On my Father's Baptismal certificate, from St. Peter's Church, NB, has stated on it the Sponsers- Harry Dolan & Monica King**, baptized by Rev. Edw. Walsh on 4 April 1915. Does anyone recognize the names mentioned. I appreciate any help.

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for the info you gave. I have since obtained my grandparent's death certificates. Robert James Hutchinson has 2 DOB's. #1, on the death certificate states 31 August 1881. #2 on his Alien Registration Card states 20 August 1881. I tend to believe the 20 August date. It also states Father's name as Robert W Hutchinson and his mother's name as Mary Quint. Robert James' occupation as Blacksmith, working in NYC for an Auto Spring Company. I am working on the Blacksmith angle in New Brunswick also. My Grandmother's death certificate states her DOB as 25 November 1890 with her parent's being Charles King and Mary Moore. It seems I will need greater proof to corroborate that info. As far as the 1903 marriage goes, that would make her 13 years old and my Grandfather 22 years old. I do know that they were 7 years apart in age. Coincidence would have it, they did have a daughter Mary Lenore, and I did have an Aunt Lenore who in turn had a son who she named Ronald. I cannot satisfy myself with that, yet. I am getting a little frustrated with this ancestry "stuff" but it "hooks" you. A very big puzzle. I like it. I sent off for my Grandfather's Social Security Application. Maybe that will give me a little more info. I am presently searching for the Ship's record they were on, 1926, when they entered Boston. If I can find out what the "W" stood for in my Great-Grandfather's name I believe that would be of immense help. Do you know how easy or hard it is to search cemetery records in New Brunswick? I do have one cousin in Texas who may be of some help in gathering information she may have on the Paternal side of the family. The King side does give one clue with "Monica" King being a Sponser of my Father's Baptism in 1915 at St Peter's Church in Saint John. Is the Drouin Collection like Diocese Headquarters for the area of New Brunswick et al? Do Church Records carry any substantial info? The other area I have to look at is my Grandfather's Death Certificate states he was a US citizen. I will have to look into that. All help is appreciated.

Hello,

With a colleague of mine, we are currently working on a project to designate 13 historical places in the Town of Richibucto (New Brunswick, Canada). In my quest to find the builder (family) and past residents of one specific house, I found the following information in the New Brunswick land registry (deeds and wills): Air Vice-Marshal Leigh F. STEVENSON (search Google.com) parents, John & Mary, sold their house to George A Hutchinson on September 7, 1922. The same house was sold in 1936 by Marguerite E Hutchinson (widow of George A Hutchinson).

Do you have any information on the above? Thanks for your support. Don't hesitate to past along the above information.

Surnames: Hutchinson, Stevenson, Irving
Hello Robert,

Leigh F. Stevenson's parents were:
John H. Stevenson (1841-1900) and Mary Ann Irving (1857-1936). Mary Ann was daughter of Herbert Irving and Catherine Dargavel.
Herbert Irving was the grandfather of industrialist Kenneth Colin Irving.

Note: Two of Mary Ann Irving Stevenson's siblings married Hutchinsons.
There were quite a few marriages among the Hutchinson, Stevenson and Irving families in Kent County.

George Alfred Hutchinson (1878-1935) parents were:
Edmund Hutchinson (1827-1892) and Mary Ann Johnson (1832-1912).

George Alfred Hutchinson was a barrister with the firms "Hewson & Hutchinson" in Moncton, then "Carter & Hutchinson" in Richibucto in 1905. His partner, William Doherty Carter was married to Mary McCrea Stevenson, niece of John H. Stevenson above.

George Alfred Hutchinson was also an editor of the Richibucto Review newspaper (per historic places citation below).

George Alfred Hutchinson's first wife (married 8 Nov 1905) was Sarah Walker Powell (1879-1929), daughter of William Wilfred Powell and Annie BARNES (per Ancestry.com Drouin Collection.)

Per 1911 Kent County, NB census, Richibucto Parish, ED 11, Page 24, lines 21 & 22, George & Sarah had no children living with them. I do not know if they had any children after 1911.
Right above them on same census page, lines 18-20 are listed:
Stevenson, Mary A. - Widow, age 53
Stevenson, Katharine I. - Daughter, age 23
Stevenson, Leigh F. - Son, age 16

1930 - 2nd marriage of George Alfred Hutchinson, per Provincial Archives of New Brunswick:

Description of Historic Place:
The Lilacs consists of a wood framed house and lot located on the corner of Sunset Drive and Hutchinson Lane, overlooking the Richibucto River in the Village of Rexton.
33 Sunset Drive, Rexton, NB

Heritage Value:
The heritage value of The Lilacs, built in the 1880's, resides in its association with Robert Hutchinson and the Hutchinson family. The name "The Lilacs" was derived from the many lilac shrubs that lined the walk from the front door to the street.

Robert Hutchinson was known for his daily walks to work from Rexton to his law office in Richibucto. Passing away at the age 86 on September 17th, 1910, he would have been one of the oldest practicing barristers in the country.

Other members of the Hutchinson family were also well known in the area.
George A. Hutchinson, a nephew of Robert's, was a barrister and editor of the Richibucto Review newspaper.
James L. Hutchinson was a surveyor and later district manager of N.B. Telephone Co. at Rexton.
Thomas Hutchinson, a lawyer in Minneapolis, and John Hutchinson, a business man in Moncton.
James' son, Captain Allison Hutchinson, was the commander of the local two masted schooner the "Loyal".

I realize that I have not provided definitive answers as to whom the house was built by or sold to in the early years, but perhaps these family names will help in your land registry/wills & deeds research.

Laurie
