Re: Kennebecasis Island Cemetery stones-transcription
Suzanne, Are you a decendant of James and Catherine Carter who are buried in the Hutchings private cemetery on K. Island? Thank you, Roberta

Re: Kennebecasis Island Cemetery stones-transcription
No sorry, no relation. I had a cottage on the island. That's how I came to research the cemetery. Suzanne

Re: Kennebecasis Island Cemetery stones-transcription
Thank you for the reply. My grandfather was born on K. Island and my Hutchings and Charlton ancestors are buried in the private cemetary there so thought you might be related. Some of the people buried in the lot I haven't been able to connect to our family for some reason. Irvine, Carter, Strayhorn, Saunders and Reed. I'll be visiting St. John from the USA with my cousin in a week and we plan to go out to the island to walk the old homestead property and visit the cemetery. Roberta

Re: Kennebecasis Island Cemetery stones-transcription
Roberta:
Mark Hutchings tells me you are his cousin. And Mark and I are cousins. My aunt Olive Hutchings spent her younger years on the Hutchings farm of John and Rebecca Hutchings along with my mother June and their brother Francis and Douglas. When they visited the graves a number of years ago they noted the Strayhorns were the original owners of the farm. The Irvines were the descendants of Catherine Carter nee Charlton who was Sarah Charlton's sister. Mary Reed was no relation according to Olive. She also noted that one of the Irvine boys had drowned. Ask Mark for my contact information. Cheers. Your cousin Rick
