Deb,
As you know, Campbell like Chiasson, connects widely on Miscou. My own research of Biseau, Brown, Harper, LeCouteur, Vibert, and Ward lineages on Miscou Island, I have posted to The Gaspe Roots. Aldo website: bakerchild.tribalpages.com

Hi,

I took a quick look at your web page and it looks really good. I am busy on my father's Irish tree right now, but will check my family more carefully after I have more time to look at it. My line goes from the Campbells, the Cowans, the Wilsons, to the Brunes.

Catherine Campbell, where you have a blank, married Duncan McCall. They married in Fredericton on 13 Mar 1813 around the time John left for the war. They moved to Shippegan and John mentions in a land grant application that she is the reason he moved to the area. They are the poor family that drowned.

Donald Campbell died in 1814 at Fort Erie.

Thanks for link,
Deb

Deb, Wonderful to fill in the missing data. I entered the data, feel that the tree is is better shape now. I was not familiar with Duncan McCall and his wife Catherine Campbell or that there had been a drowning. Island people and fishermen have a long experience with being lost at sea. Aldo

Hello Deb

I have done a lot of research on John Campbell, and have travel to Lochcarron where a small band of Campbells still reside. John Campbell would be my great great great grandfather. There is a book located in the New Brunswick Provincial archives titled “ History of Miscou Island” by William Francis Ganong, that makes notable mention of a John Campbell as one of the first English settlers on the island. The manuscripts can be access on-line.

Hi Evan,

It's good to meet another Campbell descendant. What is your line? I descend from Margaret Campbell and Thomas Cowan.

I have been researching my family for years. I have read Ganong's work and enjoyed his comments on the Campbells. McGregor had some interesting comments as well.

I do feel confused over John's military career. It is said that he was a 42nd Highlander, but I have found no military records for him other than the New Brunswick Fencibles and the 104th in New Brunswick. I have guessed that he served in the 42nd at Bernera Barracks in Glenelg since he considered himself a native and there was a military presence there at that time. I would like to find proof. Do you know anything about this?

Also, my cousin commented that a Kirk session granting him leave to join the New Brunswick Regiment named his wife as Mary MacIntosh. Sadly my cousin has passed away. Do you know of any proof the Mary MacIntosh was his wife? It seems general knowledge, but I would really like to find some records.

Your trip to Lochcarron must have been wonderful. I visited Ireland last summer and met some of my Irish family. I would love to go to Scotland in the future.

I hope we can compare notes. I am so happy to hear from a Campbell cousin.

Thanks.
Deb
