The remains of Mrs. Mary Anne Beatty a very aged and much respected lady of this place were brought here by MondayÂ’s boat and internment took place in the Church of England cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, the service being conducted by Rev. G. E. Tobin. Deceased lady died at home of her brother, Robert Flagg, at Eastport, Me. The large attendance at the funeral showed the esteem in which the deceased was held, she having united in childhood with the church from which she was buried, and proved a very consistent member during her life here. Her devotion to the church and Sabbath school work for a great many years was a marked example of her christian life and piety. She was the last of her family, her husband and a large family of sons and daughters all having predeceased her. She had attained the good old age of eighty-two years, four months.
Rev. F. A. Currier held the service in the North Road Baptist church on Sunday afternoon.

Frank A. Pool, for a long time connected with the Milton Bradley company and a prominent member of the Carew-street Baptist church, died of consumption at Talladega, Ala., yesterday, at age 24. He was born at Birmingham, Eng., but move to the city when a small boy, always making his home with a brother on Lexington avenue. He was one of Forbes & WallaceÂ’s cash boys for a brief period, but worked in the Bradley shops and office, the later part of the time as assistant book-keeper, 9 or 10 years, securing for himself meanwhile a better education than is acquired by the average business man. He was secretary of the literary society, which is one of the attractions of the Carew-street church, and assistant superintendent of the Sunday-school, where he will be particularly missed. He spent last winter in Alabama for his health, and had also been in Colorado some weeks previous to his death. He leaves two brothers in this city, one at Portland, Me., and another at New Haven. Lines on the Death of Miss Alice Beatty.
God has called another loved one,
From this world of sin and pain;
Called her to a world of glory,
Who could wish her back again?
Jesus could not let her tarry
Longer from her FatherÂ’s throne,
Angel forms were sent to carry
Little AllieÂ’s spirit home.
Death has closed the eyes in slumber,
Still the pulses of the breast;
But the spirit soared to Heaven,
Alice now is taking rest.
Youthful friends in sorrow mourn her
Sister, grieving bow there heads;
Parents weep in bitter anguish,
Refusing to be comforted.
Not long you kept the tender plant,
Which God had lent but had not given,
For Alice was a flower but sent,
To bud on earth but bloom in Heaven.
But mourn your loved one not as lost,
She sleeps a calm but peaceful sleep;
Though tears of grief for her you shed
SheÂ’s gone where mortals never weep.
Dry your sad tears, dispel the gloomÂ’
Now how your hearts in vain regret;
‘Tis but the casket n the tomb
The gem that tilled it sparkles yet.
Then mother never wish her back,
In this unfriendly world to roam;
But bless the hand that gave and took
And calmly say, “Thy will be done.”

DAILY TABLE HINT
A good way to use stale bread is to make griddle cakes fo it. Break up the bread in rather small pieces, put them in a bowl and pour enough milk over them to thoroughly moisten and soften, then press the bread through the colander. Beat two eggs to a stiff froth, add two tablespoons of melted butter, then add a pint of milk and a teaspoonful of salt, and stir in enough of the bread pulp to make a stiff batter. Last of all, briskly stir in two tablespoonfuls of baking powder. Bake the cakes on hot griddle, and serve with maple syrup.

LINES.
On the death of Reba M. Banks.
Ah! silent the dwelling where laughter once rippled;
The voice of our dear one is hushed in the grave;
Her fair face no longer with smiles illumined,
For God hath reclaimed what so lately He gave,
Yes! He hath recalled her to shine in His kingdom,
A jewel resplendent His crown to adorn;
And sadly we mourn her, but are not despairing,
For now like a lamb in His bosom sheÂ’s borne.
We know that our darling hath passed into glory
Beyond our dark world and its sorrow hath sored;
And trust in the fullness of time we shall join her,
Forever to rest in the arms of the Lord.
