Seeking any information regarding Nellie Baldwin.

Born around 1877, probably in Charlotte Co. New Brunswick, but possibly elsewhere in NB or in Nova Scotia.

Nellie and her husband lived in Wilson's Beach Campobello and Lubec Maine. Family history says that Nellie Mae was from somewhere "up north" that was not real far away from there, but far enough that it was a journey for her to visit her family. Her mother's name may have been Rebecca Maxwell. In the 1910 US census it says that Nellie's mother's place of birth was Ireland; in the 1920 census it says that her mother's place of birth was Canada.

Family history also says that Nellie's family was part Mi'kmak. I'd love to be able to trace this native history, but I'm not terribly hopeful, since there isn't any tradition even of Acadian surnames.

Married George A. Matthews (sometimes spelled Mathews) of Campobello Is. New Brunswick. Children:

Elsie born c. 1904
Eva Mae born c. 1905
Clayton M born c. 1909
Mary Etta (sometimes Marietta) born c. 1913
Albert (known as Dodie) born c. 1915

After George died, Nellie married again. I don't know her second husband's name, but family tradition says he was a fishing / lobster boat operator and was known to the family as "the Captain." My best guess is that this marriage took place after 1915 (birth of youngest Matthews child) but before 1930 (U.S. census shows my teen-aged grandmother living with her older sister and brother-in-law; family rumor has it Grandma didn't get along with the Captain).
