Dan Johnson's extracts did not go to 1900, I believe. Try:
http://archives.gnb.ca/Documents/CountyGuides/Carleton_en-CA...
This is the PANB County Guide for Carleton Co. On page 13 it seems to suggest that there was not a newspaper in Carleton Co. in 1900. I believe this conclusion is incorrect. I'll get back to that in a moment.

An alternative is the York Co., County Guide at:
http://archives.gnb.ca/Documents/CountyGuides/York_en-CA.pdf
Several newspaper may be available, possibly on microfilm, including:

"Daily Gleaner" 1889-1993.
"New Brunswick Reporter" 1844-1902.

The "Gleaner" would be my first choice.

At:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbcarlet/
About halfway down is, "Newspaper Write-Ups about Carleton County People:". Page 68 has, for example, extracts from "The Carleton Sentinel" SEP1901 so there was a local paper about that time. I see no particular order or means of searching this site.

Thomas.
Thanks for the dates on Stirling. You are related to me through Alida (BRIDGES). BRIGGS family is not related to BRIDGES except maybe 400 years ago, but that is debatable.
I think there is a picture of Stirling & Alida in "The Bridges Family" by Gerald & May Folsom. It is in the garage with my photos, so, like, someday, maybe, I'll find them again!
I have July 12, 1950 for Alida's death, so perhaps she died on the 12th and was published on the 14th. I will check next time I go to Monticello. Here is a little more info.

Vital Records:
27 May 1899 Florence A. Currie Monticello Living 6th Child
Parents: James.

There were Cronk's and Cronkhites both in New Brunswick. Oliver may have been born in New Brunswick but, if you look in the Canadian 1851 census, under the spelling Oliver Crank as it is recorded, you will find Oliver and Diana in Sidney, Hasting County, Canada west[Ontario].
Ontario marriage records interpet Diana last name as Anderson married in 1851 but the original looks different.
In any case, I'd suggest that Crank is Cronk by looking at the original census.
I'll let you know if soething else is found.
Carroll

Oliver Cronk b. Northampton, NB

I am having a devil of a time looking for the parents of my great-grandfather,Oliver Jay Cronk, who was born according to the 1860 US Federal Census in "Northamden,Canada" on 28 Feb 1828. He also stated in other censuses that his father came from New York,USA.

My research indicates that the "Northamden" listed is actually Northampton Parish, New Brunswick, Canada. There are numerous records of land deeds that were issued to various members of the Cronkhite family in Northampton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada dating back to 1780. I surmise that the surname "Cronk" is a deviation from the original family name of "Cronkhite" and that Oliver Cronk was a member of this family.

Members of this Cronkhite family have been noted for coming from New York to New Brunswick but my research into this family shows no evidence of any Oliver Cronk. I am wondering if he may have been illegitimate or an orphan.

He married Diana Ouderkirk and had their first son,John b.1852, in Canada. Subsequently, in 1853, they left Canada and ended up in Middleburgh, Schoharie, New York, United States in 1860. They had 5 additional children: Chalmers Emmet (b. 1855), Nancy Margaret (b. 1857), Mary Edith (b. 1860), Myrta (b. 1865), and Dorman (b. 1868).

Between 1870 and 1880, Oliver and his family migrated and settled in Nebraska, where he died in 1912 at the age of 84.

Any information that point me in the direction of Oliver's parents would be greatly appreciated.

-Ruth MacPherson

If Elizabeth, wife of William White, was b. in Rhode Island ca. 1775 I would suspect that she was a daughter of:

SAMUEL BOONE (s/o Samuel Boone) b. Rhode Island ca. 1740-1, d. ca. 1830, m. North Kingstown, RI 7JAN1767 MARGARET SMITH (b. ca. 1746?, buried North Kingstown, RI).

That is just a suspicion but Samuel's family (including children of his brother, William) can be found in the Keswick area early on. Also I notice that his children do not appear to be clearly defined and would suspect that some are 'missing'. I cannot immediately think of any other, early, family that might be from Rhode Island. The Haines', Brewer's, Lawrence's, etc. seem mostly to have been from New York. Samuel's brother:

WILLIAM BOONE b. Rhode Island 22AUG1743, d. 28APR1829, buried Burtt's Corner Community Cemetery, Douglas Parish, York Co., NB, m. 21MAY1761 RUTH HILL (b. Providence, Rhode Island 25FEB1744 (or 4FEB1743), d. 12(or 14)MAY1833, buried Burtt's Corner Community Cemetery, Douglas Parish, York Co., NB), d/o Capt. Ebenezer and Mary (Fones) Hill.

Had a daughter, Elizabeth, who apparently is the same who m. one of the Isaac Lawrence's and is mentioned in her father's will. A witness to that will was Thomas White. Also, being born 3NOV1783, she could not have been Samuel's daughter as Samuel's wife remained in Rhode Island.

Henry Boone, s/o William (4JUL1774) m. 8JUN1798 Annie White, but I do not know who her parents were. There are several Boone-White marriages which at least show that they were neighbours and knew each other relatively well. That and the Boone's obviously being from Rhode Island are what make me suspect Elizabeth's origins.

Thomas

Jacob White was my 3rd great grandfather on my mother's side of the family and I have extensive research on the family. I would just like to add that the Thomas, Isaac, and William White who petitioned for land in 1787 were in fact the sons of Thomas White (1741-1816) and Dorothy Brass. Like their brother Jacob they settled on the Keswick River, but later sold their land and moved to Hodgdon, Maine.
William b. abt 1759, d. 1843 at Hodgdon, Maine. He married Elizabeth ?, b. abt 1775 in Rhode Island, d. aft. 1850
Isaac b. 26 June 1767, d. 01 Dec 1851 at East Hodgdon, Maine. Isaac married Susannah Morehouse, b. 04 May 1771, d. b. 1850.
Please feel free to contact me at pbrewer2@bellaliant if I can be of additional help.

Judging by the 1851 census, Lydia White b. ca. 1819 is likely a sister of Samuel White in Douglas Parish b. ca. 1818 as both are said to have been born in NB. I believe there were three White families in Douglas Parish, two of which arrived after Lydia and Samuel were born. The third is said to be a Loyalist family, including Jacob White b. NY ca. 1780. At:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/WHITE/2000-11/...
he is said to have m. Elizabeth Green and Samuel and Lydia are listed amongst their children.

At:
http://nbgs.automatedgenealogy.com/firstfamilies/FAMILY-W-20...
Jacob White is a son in the family:

WHITE: Thomas White probably born in NY, died June 1816 at Saint Marys Parish, York County: married 1761 at Hempstead, Long Island, NY, Dorothea Brass:
Only children mentioned:
1) William White:
2) Isaac White b. 1767:
3) Thomas White b. 2 Jun 1774, d. 2 Mar 1862, m. Elizabeth Sisson born 24 Oct 1784 d/o Jonathan Sisson and Huldah Herrick: went to Hodgdon, ME:
4) Jacob White b. c1780, died 4 Mar 1843 at Douglas, York County, married Elizabeth Green b. c1778:
5) Sarah White married Mr. Crane.

with 'Mr. Crane' possibly being Daniel Crane (also of the New York Volunteers) who had a wife, Sarah b. ca. 1762.

Jacob and Thomas White, presumably his brother possibly his father, petitioned for land in York Co., NB in 1803. Other petitioners were Brewer's, Isaac Lawrence, Peter Allen, etc. indicating the Keswick River area of Douglas Parish. On the other hand, Jacob White, Cornelius Brewer and James Whitehead were granted land in St. Mary's Parish in 1808 although I would still regard them as residents of Douglas Parish. Since the two parishes border each other there may not be any real inconsistency.

Thomas, Isaac and William White were amongst members of the New York Volunteers who were granted land in York Co. on the Saint John River in 1787. I would hesitate to suggest that the three were relatives although the idea might be worth investigating. Other grantees were Joseph and Peters Haines, Isaac Lawrence, Widow Jones, Daniel Morehouse, James Whitehead, etc. whom I would associate with Douglas Parish although I cannot say the same for the majority of grantees.

Generally there appears to be evidence of a Loyalist, White family in Douglas Parish, that Lydia was likely a member of that family. Most likely the family of Cpl. Thomas White who is also noted at:
http://www.royalprovincial.com/military/musters/krrny/krrwat...
http://www.royalprovincial.com/military/musters/nyv/nyvcam1....
The Horton's were also amongst the grantees in 1787 and the Horton family mostly originates in Southold, Long Island, NY with connections in Rye, Westchester Co., NY.

See:
http://www.onelibrary.com/ancestors/grant/pafn05.htm
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=81...
http://www.oocities.org/heartland/plains/5085/descendants_of...
http://freya-newenglandgenealogy.blogspot.ca/2010/02/our-anc...
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/o/l/Karen-L-Col...
which states that Lydia d. in Ontario in 1893, although this seems unlikely.
http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=1330&am...

Thomas

What a pleasure reading your posts! We also have many photos from the early 1900's as well as some family connections that you may not have. If you would like to share some of these photos we would be glad to send them to you. I'm sure the rest of the family would agree. The fact that Saul's father was James is a real lead for us as we try to connect these Carr's with other Carr families in the area. If you would like to contact me privately, my email address is:bart@nbnet.nb.ca. I live in Fredericton, NB

I thank you again for your lovely replies.
Eric

I almost forgot to mention that Richard Solomon Carr had a sister named Charlotte Carr. She married in Maine and moved to Washington (state). Her marriage record states her mother's name was Hannah and her father's name was James. She was much younger than her brother. She was younger than Willard Judson. I was fortunate enough to have a grandmother that saved letters and pictures from the early 1900's to help me get as far as I have in my search for family members.

Richard Solomon Carr "Saul" was my 2nd great grandfather. He married Elizabeth J Pangburn, date unknown, and they had 3 sons. Willard Judson Carr lived in Parkman, Maine. He married Carrie Alice Davis and had one daughter. He never remarried after the death of his wife. James Boardman Carr married Pearl M Foss and lived in Maine for a time, then his family (3 daughters) moved to Kansas. Harry A remained in Massachusetts. He married and had 5 children. I am still searching for information on his descendants.

R. Solomon Carr and Lizzie Pangburn divorced in 1880 and they each remarried. She married Frank Brewster and lived in the Boston, Massachusetts area. She drowned off the coast of Maine in 1908.

Solomon married Lizzie Murphy. They had two daughters and one son. The youngest daughter, the twin of the son, died at the age of 2 years and 3 months. I am still trying to determine when Solomon died. According to the marriage record of his son James, he was already deceased in 1893.

Thank you so much for replying. It has been a long time since we had any new information. There were at least four Solomon Carr's living in this area of New Brunswick during this time period. We are trying to track a Solomon Richard Carr who died in the Woodstock area in the 1890's. We know that "our" Solomon was married several times AND all his wives were named Elizabeth. How's that for confusion? Do you have any information on the Carr family that Elizabeth married into? We would truly like to know more about Elizabeth Pangburn Carr's father and mother-in-law. We would appreciate anything you can tell us. For instance, do you know exactly where any of these families lived? Again, I thank you for your response. Kindest regards, Eric Carr

Prior to 1848, Mary E McDonald married Edwin Mischeau Bedell. In the 1851 Canadian Census, Edwin, his wife Mary and sons Walter and Joseph Bedell were enumerated in Woodstock, Carleton, NB.

On 8 Nov 1906, Mary passed away in Haynesville, Aroostook, Maine. Her death record gives the name of her father as Ronald McDonald, born in Glengory, Scotland and her mother as Harrett (Harriet), birth location not given. At least one lineage that I have located indicates that Harriet’s last name was McKinnie.

My second cousin is a descendant of Edwin and Mary through their daughter Maud Alice Bedell. In 1893, Maud Alice married William Arthur Heal.

I would appreciate any additional information about both John McDonald and his wife Harriet (McKinnie?).

Martin Hendrix
Administrator, Hendricks DNA Project
HendricksDNA@Charter.net

Yes, Martha was married to Robert Elliott. Their daughter Lillian was my wife's/children's ancestor (2nd great gm). Lillian married George Arthur Jackman in Boston on August 27, 1894 and ended up living in Norwell, Plymouth County, MA.
Do your records have the birthdate of Robert Elliot? I only have a year, 1843 and no year of death. I have his parent's names as Thomas Elliott and Sarah McKnight with a year of birth for both as 1809.
Any info you have on these folks and don't mind passing on would be greatly appreciated, thanks again!
Jonas FITZHERBERT and his father Vice-Admiral Thomas FITZHERBERT were part of the Cucklington branch which is part of the Somersal Herbert branch which is an offshoot of the Norbury branch.
Mary Anne (Maria) SMYTHE married (in 1775) Thomas FITZHERBERT, head of the Norbury branch at the time.

The Vice-Admiral married Margaret Langford (I thought Langford was her middle name and I don't know her maiden name), Jonas was their 3rd and, I believe, youngest child. He had 3 children that I know of (I don't know his wife's name) Thomas, Alicia and Susan.
If you know more I'd be interested in the information.

Regards
Giles Fitzherbert
gilesfitzherbert@yahoo.co.uk

Can you supply me with some more information? My ancestor is John Brewer(b. abt 1772 in New York). He married Elizabeth Yerxa, whose family was also from that area. They settled at Upper Keswick (Zealand area). My DNA is a close match with descendants of Nicholas Brouwer, son of Adam Brouwer Berkhoven.
There was a John Brower, who died abt 1816, on the Nashwaak. Not sure who he was.
My email is pbrewer2@bellaliant.net. I have lots on my John Brewer line if I can be of help.
Paul

Looking For Info About Malcolm ( Murray? Bushey?0 Sewell

I am trying to help a friend trace her father's (who is deceased)genealogy. Malcolm John Murray was born to John Murray and Viva Bushey according to a certified copy of registration of birth on 2-18-1923 in St. John, St. John Co., New Brunswick, Canada in the Evangeline Maternity Home. The copy states the parents were married but no additional information on parents such as age, birth place,
occupation, number of children etc. On 1-10-1924 Malcolm was adopted from the New Brunswick Protestant Orphans Home in St. John by a Edway B. Sewell of Coldstream in Carleton Co. N.B. Malcolm is listed as a destitute orphan. Does anyone have any information about these people? Can a child be declared an orphan if he wasabandoned by his birth parents. Any information or direction you can give me would be very appreciated.
Sherry Jones
I have no idea where I put that map (2005), but I can certainly draw another one when I consult my mother.
I am descendent of the Bridges family, so we are mildly related. I think the other poster in this query is of another line altogether, but most likely related even farther back, as the same names are repeated in the other family. Probably a cousin or removal to our line of Stirling Currie. Not many people went all the way to Mass. to get married, though a LOT of people went to Woodstock from Maine or Woodstock to Maine, I have noticed through the years. Most people did not have the money to travel extensively on a honeymoon back then, as was common just 20-30 years later.
