There were, in the 1901 census, a large number of Saunders’ in Carleton Co., NB. Most lived around Woodstock. Since Florenceville is in Simonds Parish let’s concentrate there and see what happens. East Florenceville, however, is in Peel Parish, so we may have to consider there as well.

In Simonds Parish, in 1901, were J.L. (18JUN1828) and Annie J. (14JAN1832) Saunders. With them was a niece, Maggie Parlee (b. ca. 1881).

JOHN L. SAUNDERS b. 18JUN1828 (ca. 1827), m. ANN (ANNIE) JUDSON PETTINGELL (b. Queens Co., NB 14JAN1832 (ca. 24JAN1832 according to death record, ca. 1861), d. Florenceville, Simonds Parish, Carleton Co., NB 6APR1908 age 76 years, 2 months and 12 days).
In 1891, in Simonds Parish, were John L. (64) and Annie J. (60) Saunders with a son, Clarence A. (27), and an ‘adopted’ daughter, Ethel Parlee (13). John and Annie’s parents were both born in NB.
In 1881, in Simonds Parish, John L. (54) and Annie J. (49) Saunders had Lloyd T. A. (21) and ‘Clarance’ A. (17). On one side lived the family of John and ‘Harrett’ McCain, so this seems to be in Florenceville. On the other side were Hugh J. (51) and Elizabeth (49) Parlee. These would be John’s sister, Elizabeth Jane Saunders, and her husband, Hugh Teacles Parlee.
In 1871, John L. (42) and Ann J. (39) ‘Sandres’ had ‘Loyd’ Thomas (11) and ‘Alter?’ C. (7). John was a merchant and in 1881 had been a trader and farmer.
In Simonds Parish, in 1861, John L. (34) and Anne J. (27) Saunders were both born in Kings Co., NB. John L. was a merchant and a son was Lloyd T. N. (2). Next door was another merchant, William E. Saunders (24), also born in Kings Co. Presumably William was John’s brother and partner. William’s wife, Nancy (22) was born in Carleton Co. and they had two sons, Samuel LeB. (LeBaron) C. (2) and Earnest N. M. (2 months).
John (b. ca. 1827-9) and William (b. ca. 1837) would be John (b. ca. 1828) and William (b. ca. 1836) Saunders, sons of Thomas (ca. 1797) and ‘Jonica?’ (ca. 1803) Saunders in Hampton Parish, Kings Co., NB in 1851. Their siblings were Samuel (ca. 1826), James? (ca. 1841?), Mary? Anne? (ca. 1830), Elizabeth (ca. 1832), Louisa (ca. 1833), Ruth (ca. 1839), Eliza (ca. 1842) and Margaret (ca. 1845).
Thomas Saunder’s wife, ‘Jonica’ b. ca. 1803 was most probably Louisa (Hicks) Saunders (b. ca. 1804, d. Hammond River, Kings Co., NB 6JUN1879), wife of Thomas Saunders. Thomas d. Hammond River 2DEC1888 age 97 years. There son was Samuel Whitney Saunders (17FEB1827-10AUG1863) who m. Sarah Abigail Wetmore.
Mary Ann Saunders m. 17NOV1853 James S. Kierstead.
Ruth Eliza Saunders b. ca. 1840, d. 16FEB1865, m. Andrew Beyea.
Margaret Matilda Saunders d. Studholm Parish, Kings Co., NB 27MAY1884, m. Wellesley Parlee.
By 1911 there were no Saunders in Simonds Parish, including Florenceville.
Children:
1. LLOYD THOMAS A. (N., F.H., B.H.) SAUNDERS b. ca. 15MAY1859 (1860), d. Florenceville 25MAY1885 age 26 years and 10 days.
John L. and Annie J. were Anglican and the early Anglican church meetings were held in John’s store in Florenceville. Lloyd, however, was buried in the Florenceville Catholic Church Cemetery probably because there was no Anglican cemetery at the time.
2. ANNIE LOUISA SAUNDERS b. ca. JUN1862, d. 24JUL1862 age 1 month, buried Florenceville Catholic Cemetery.
3. CLARENCE ARTHUR SAUNDERS b. Florenceville ca. 25JUL1863 (ca. 1867), d. Texas 17DEC1898 age 35 years and 4 months and 23 days, buried Florenceville Catholic Cemetery.
4. WILLIAM GORDON SAUNDERS b. ca. 12OCT1876, d. Florenceville 19SEP1877 age 11 months and 7 days buried Florenceville Catholic Cemetery.

WILLIAM E. SAUNDERS (s/o Thomas and Louisa (Hicks) Saunders) b. Kings Co., NB ca. 1847, m. ANN (NANCY) BOYER (b. Carleton Co., NB 25JUL1838 (ca. 1839-40)), d/o John and Naomi (Wheeler) Boyer.

There was, in Simonds Parish, in 1861, a family of Edward (b. York Co., NB ca. 1831) and Jane E. (b. Carleton Co. ca. 1834) with children William S. (ca. 1853), Ann E. (ca. 1855) and Mary E. (ca. 1859). Edward was a tanner and currier (leatherworker and cured hides). In the same census, in Peel Parish, were William E. Saunders (b. Kings Co., NB ca. 1847), Nancy (b. Carleton Co. ca. 1839) and sons Samuel W. LeB. (LeBaron) (2) and Earnest W. M. (2 months). ‘Earnest’ I would take to be Edmund. In 1861 William was a merchant and, as noted above, was the brother of John L. Saunders and the son of Thomas and Louisa Saunders of Hampton Parish, Kings Co., NB.

In Simonds Parish, Carleton Co., NB in 1871, Nancy ‘Sandres’ (ca. 1840) was a widow with two sons, Whitney (ca. 1859) and ‘Edmond’ (ca. 1861). They lived with John (ca. 1797) and ‘Naomi’ (ca. 1812) ‘Boyers’, whom I suspect were her parents. John was ‘French’ but probably Huguenot French rather than Acadian or Quebecois as the family appears to be Loyalists to NB from New York in 1783. All were born in New Brunswick.

John Boyer may have been the John Boyer of Queensborough (Queensbury Parish?) who m. Fredericton 8SEP1814 Susannah Clare, d/o John Clare. He may also have been Deacon John Boyer of Florenceville in 1870. In Simonds Parish, in 1851, the family was:

Bowyer John M Head 53 Native Farmer (Prop)
Bowyer Nome F Wife 37 Native
Bowyer John B M Son 26 Native
Bowyer William C M Son 24 Native
Bowyer Sarah F Daughter 20 Native
Bowyer Edward Son 14 Native
Bowyer Ann F Daughter 12 Native
Bowyer George R M Son 9 Native
Bowyer Isabela F Daughter 6 Native
Bowyer Francis F Daughter 4 Native
Bowyer Charles Napier M Son 2 Native

There appears to be some contention as to whether the Boyer’s were Loyalists or pre-Loyalists (I.e., arriving in NB before 1783). For example, at:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbcarlet/victoria/victoria...
is written:

BOYER - Quote from "American BOYERS" by Rev. Charles C. BOYER PhD
John BOYER
“The historian's correspondents report that the forefathers of John Boyer were French. From the fact that his wife was born 1734, we may guess that he was born about 1730-1735. Mrs. Bowser says that he is buried in New York. His wife, Mary Simms, and her children, came to New Brunswick with Loyalists and landed at Saint John, N.B., about 1762, or a little later, probably after her husband's death. She died in 1811, at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Phoebe Shaw, a descendant, thinks there were only two children, Charles & James. A grandson of Charles, namely Shepherd M. Boyer of Hartland, N. B., Canada, says, 14 April 1914, that when John Boyer and Mary Simms, his wife, left New York as "loyalists", the son Charles watched the parents "pack up the most valuable things they could take away, such as a silver spoon".”

If they arrived in 1762, they were pre-Loyalists. That, however, appears to have been an error. They did, however, intermarry with pre-Loyalist families.

Children:
1. SAMUEL WHITNEY LeBARON SAUNDERS b. Carleton Co., NB ca. 1859.
2. EDMUND WOODBURY SAUNDERS b. West Florenceville, Carleton Co., NB 7JUL1860 (7JUL1862 in 1901), d. (Buckman) Lewis.
Edmund was the son of Wm. E. and Nancy (Bower?) Saunders. He worked for the railroad and farmed.

Thomas Saunders is given as b. Deer Isle, Hancock Co., ME 30OCT1793 the s/o James and Susan (Webb) Saunders. See also:
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/A_Historical_Sketch_of_the_Tow...
Down near the bottom of the page. I am not sure that the assumption that Thomas came from Maine is correct especially as, in 1851, the Saunders’ in Hampton Parish were all born in NB. I suspect they were descended from Loyalists (probably John Saunders). For example, at:
http://boards.ancestry.ca/localities.northam.canada.newbruns...
Cleadie B. Barnett gives:

John Saunders, Sr, b. New Jersey, d. after 1838, m. Elizabeth ..., b. ca. 1752, Elizabethtown, NJ, d. 24 Aug 1838, ae 86 yrs, Hampton, NB, bur. 28 Aug 1838, Anglican Church Records. They came in 1783.

vii Margaret Ann, b. ca. 1800, m. 26 Dec 1822, Kings Co,

This seems far more probable.
