Ambrose Jones b. Belledune, Restigouche Co., NB ca. 1860, d. Belledune, Restigouche Co., NB 7NOV1939 age 79 years was the son of Richard and Jane (Lugar?) Jones. He was single when he died.
In 1901 there were only two Jones' in Restigouche Co., in Addington Parish: Amos Jones (10NOV1881) and Joseph A. Jones (6MAR1885, working as a servant for William M. 'Sproul' (Sproule), Jr.).
In 1851, in Durham Twp., Restigouche Co., NB, were John Jones (b. England ca. 1811; arrived JUN1826) and Jane (b. ca. 1818, 'French', probably Acadian). Children were Joseph (12), John (10), 'Cornalus' (8), Edward (6), William (4) and Elizabeth (2).
In 1861, in Durham Parish, Restigouche Co., NB, there was John Jones b. England ca. 1806 with a wife, Lana (b. 'Canady' ca. 1818), and children 'Jeoseph' (22), John (20), 'Corneilious?' (18), 'Alferd?' (16), 'William?' (14), 'Elisabeth?' (12), Charles (10), Ann (8), Paul (5) and 'Ambroze' (1). There was, elsewhere in the Parish, a James Jones b. England ca. 1796.
In Durham Parish in 1871 were Cornelius Jones (27), his wife, Rosanne (Marie-Rosalie Allain; 25) and their daughters. Also, in the same Parish, there were John Jones (b. England ca. 1804) and Jane (b. NB ca. 1809) with John (29), William (22), Elizabeth (20), Charles (19), Anne (17), Paul (15) and Ambrose (11). In 1890, Cornelius and Marie-Rosalie lived at Balmoral, Restigouche Co. Cornelius is said to have m. 27JUL1877 Mary Blair but judging by the 1871 census and the 1890 birth registration this seems questionable. However, in 1891, Cornelius' (ca. 1839) wife was Mary (b. ca. 1852) apparently a different wife? Next door was John Jones (ca. 1839) given as married but no wife seems present although there are several children" Joseph (22), Mary (19), William (17), John (15), Ambrose (12), Charles (10) and Peter (5).
Paul appears to be Paul John Jones who m. Margaret Jane Richardson and lived in Dalhousie; but I can't be sure. There was also a Paul Jones of Jacquet River who m. Mary Guitar (Guitard?).
John Jones d. Dalhousie, Restigouche Co., NB 20AUG1891 age 95 years. He was b. London, England.
In 1891, Ambrose Jones (b. NB ca. 1864) was apparently in Grand Prairie, Yale (District?), British Columbia.
John Joseph Jones b. Dalhousie ca. 1859 (?), d. Lewisville, Westmorland Co., NB 3SEP1935. His wife was Barbara G. Jones and a son was Fred Edward Jones. According to the marriage record of a son, also John Joseph Jones, John, Sr. was b. West DeBois, Maine and his wife was Barbara Boise. Barbara m. 2nd 1938 William Cushing and was given as the d/o James A. and Susan (Cubthison?) Boyce. Barbara Delia Cushing (b. 10FEB1872, d. 2AUG1945) was the d/o James and Susan (Cuthbertson) Boyce. On the birth record of John, Jr. (2MAR1911) John, Sr. was given as b. Woodstock, NB. This according to Edward Fred Jones who is the same person who gave Dalhousie on John, Sr.'s death registration. Dalhousie is repeated in the birth record of a daughter, Ruth Evelyn (22MAR1915) and a daughter, Frances (22MAR1917). Also the birth record of Mary Emma (16JUL1904). Dalhousie, so far, seems more likely.
In 1911, John J. Jones was b. JAN1886 and 'Barbra' D. was b. FEB1881 but these just seem wrong based on the above. The 1921 census of Lakeville is confusing as well. John appears to be absent. Barbara Jones (married, b. ca. 1881) has Edith (6 months) and Fred 'Edison' Jones (20), listed as mother-in-law (?).
While the data so far is contradictory, I wonder if John Joseph Jones b. ca. 1859 or 1886 was not John Jones (ca. 1876) in 1891, s/o John Jones (ca. 1839), s/o John and Jane. He did have a brother, Ambrose (ca. 1879).
in 1881, in Dalhousie Parish, John Jones was b. England ca. 1801. Jane was b. Quebec (the Gaspe Peninsula?) ca. 1819. With them were Ambrose (19) and Edward (8). Also in Dalhousie Parish was John (44) and Margaret (40) Jones with Joseph (12), Mary (9), William (6) and Charles (2). Next door lived 'Cornelis' (38) (married but no wife present), and his children. In 1891, as above, the family was given as John Jones (ca. 1839) given as married but no wife seems present although there are several children" Joseph (22), Mary (19), William (17), John (15), Ambrose (12), Charles (10) and Peter (5). So, where were John III and Ambrose? I cannot find the family in NB in 1901, and suspect they may be in Maine.
So far, if my theory is right, John Joseph Jones is variously given as b. JAN1886, ca. 1876, ca. 1859. I feel fairly confident that the Restigouche Co. family is his. Other than that, more information may be needed.
Barbara D. Boyce m. Bangor, Penobscot Co., ME 31AUG1896 John J. Jones. Presumably John was at least age 20-years so likely born before the 1881 census. That is ca. 1876 seems the closest to his date-of-birth. Many North Shore New Brunswickers went to the Bangor area to work in the logging camps and lumber mills. Bangor and Brewer people likely have many family connections to NB. Although Barbara is said to have been b. in Bangor the d/o James Joseph (ca. 1834) and Susannah (Cuthbertson; 31JUL1840) Boyce, her parents were from Westmorland Co., NB. James (50) and Susan (40) Boyce were in Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1881 with, amongst their children, 'Barbary' Boyce (2). Barbara's birth-date seems very flexible as well. In 1884 James and Susan Boyce lived in Dorchester Parish. This according to the birth record of their son, Adam (28FEB1884). Meanwhile, the birth record of their daughter, Mary 'Francis' (25JAN1884) says they lived in Jones' Mills (now Jones, Moncton Parish). Obviously they did not live in two places at the same time and also obviously the two children were not born one month apart. It would appear they moved about and that one of the birth-dates is incorrect. Adam died in Wicklow Parish, Carleton Co., NB 20JAN1956, his death record states that he was b. 28FEB1884 and his parents were unknown. It seems that a lot was forgotten quickly. Mary Frances Boyce m. 7SEP1903 Robert C. Atkinson. Both Adam and Mary were age 7 in 1891 and Delia was age 12. It seems that Barbara Delia was b. ca. 1879 and Adam and Mary may have been twins. It also possible that Adam was not really James and Susan's son, but a grandson 'adopted' as a son. For example, in 1891, he is listed last after the younger children.
