I am trying to locate some members or descendents of the men from Carleton County that joined Number 15 Company of the Canada Forestry Corps that was formed in 1940.
Some of the names are Tennyson Brewer, Bristol; Edward Kennedy, Upper Kent; J. G. Kirpatrick, East Florenceville; Percy Lawor, River de Chute; James Martin, River de Chute; William Rideout, Bristol; Samuel Erlin Shaw, Bristol; Millage Allen TAylor, Beechwood and Jasph Wyman, Beechwood.
They joined in the summer of 1940 at East Florenceville and went to Scotland the following year.

I am putting together some history of the Forestry Corps and any informantion would be helpful.

Surnames: Flewelling
I don't know if the following is the same unit, and different war. Harold Stanley Flewelling was the son of Clarence LeMurray Flewelling and Catherine Speerwater Bruce, of the Kingston area of Kings Co., NB. He was a distant cousin of whom I know little, but I found some information in his enlistment papers:

HAROLD STANLEY FLEWELLING b. Reeds Point, Kings Co., N 24JAN1893. His enlistment papers (13JUL1917) in WWI say that he was then living at Bloomfield Station, NB, was a farmer, Church of England, single and the s/o Clarence Flewelling. His regimental number was 2304201, and he was enlisted into the 2nd NB Forestry Company, CEF. His age is given as 24 years and 6 months, his eyes were blue, his hair dark brown, his complexion ‘fresh’, and he was 5 feet 9 inches tall. He needed prescription glasses.

Thanks Thomas.
Harold would have been with the Forestry Corps in the first war. I know that there is some information on them during that war, but am not sure if any names or anybody has taken the time to find out whom inlisted with the Forestry Corps from that war. Once I get this one done. I might give it a try. There seems to be so many forgotten units that worked to make sure that the men in the front lines had all of the supplies that they needed. But I do know that he was part of the group that must have supplied railway ties and boards for the Canadain Railway Troops that were at the front line, which my father belonged.

I had not considered what the Forestry Corps duties might have been, but as well as the shoring in the trenches in WWI, there were the rail lines at Vimy Ridge. I don't think many people recognize the significance of Vimy Ridge. It was a carefully planned, all units, unified action which transformed casual slaughter to technical performance. For example, the use of seismic detectors to locate artillery batteries. A major feature was the ability to transpart personnel and equipment rapidly, and to withdraw casualties effectively. Without the rail lines, this would have been far more difficult.

Denise. He would be with the same unit. It would have been 1941 or after. Have you ever applied to Ottawa for his military records?
Also, thanks for the information. I didn't have his name.

Ralph-- No, we haven't applied to Ottawa for his military records. Bill passed away in 1996 and there was probably some records in his belongings but we don't have those. Maybe some other family member does. But thanks for the advice, I will certainly look into obtaining his records.

Denise. The following sites will help you in getting military records. You should have his service number, which will make it much easier for them and will cut down on the time some what in receiving them.
