Mostowy, Selkirk, MB to AB
Hi there,
I am looking for information on my family. I am brand new to this but it certainly has my interest.
Here's what I have: *I was born in Lethbridge, AB as Shannon Mostowy and I have 2 brothers, Robin and Todd. *Our father was Robert William Mostowy (12/1938-06/2005) who married Brenda Lee Jones (08/1963-07/2006), our mother. *Robert's parents, I've been told, were William and Sally Mostowy. *We are Ukrainian and my dad and siblings (Susan [now Melnyk], James, Kenneth, Brian, Linda?, Roland?) were all from Selkirk/Winnipeg area.
I'd like to find out what Sally's maiden name was, if either William or Sally were born here in Canada or if not, if dates and where from can be provided. I'd like to work my way back from William and Sally but learn as much about them as possible.
Many thanks!

Re: Mostowy, Selkirk, MB to AB
There also is a record of a William Mostowy born in St. Boniface January 13, 1912 with the mother's name being Eudokia Kushnin. There appear to be other Mostowy's born a few years apart having a mother with variations of the Kushnin spelling or a different mother.

Re: Mostowy, Selkirk, MB to AB
Hello Mr. Brown,
I was wondering if there was anyway you would be able to get me information on either of my grand parents, William Mostowy or Sally Mostowy (RUDNICKI)?
I seem to have hit a wall with this.
Thank you.

Re: Mostowy, Selkirk, MB to AB
Sally's parents were Joseph Rudnicki, b. 1888, d Oct 25 1945; and Anastasia (nee HALAK) b. 1888, d. Nov 26 1948.
Married Sept 19 1920, they lived for many years at 1072 Aberdeen. Joseph immigrated in 1908, Anastasia in 1909.
Sally's siblings were Ann, Estelle, Mildred & John. The family can be found in the 1921 Census and marriage record in the Manitoba Archives.
Most likely Sally wasn't born as Sally (abt 1916); might have been Sonia. She died in 1979.
The Rudnicki family is a bit difficult to research because there was another Joseph Rudnicki also living in Manitoba. The other problem is family records are under names RUDNICKY/RUDNICKI/RUDNICKE/RODONIZSKY/RUDNITSKY/RUDNIEKEY/RUDNICKI
As suggested by Stella in another post, there are opportunities for more information by obtaining the death, marriage and naturalization certificates for family members.

Re: Mostowy, Selkirk, MB to AB
How would I obtain death certificates if I don't know where they were buried?
Like, I'm really really new at all this so I have no idea what a naturalization certificate is either...
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated until I can get figuring this out.
Thank you.

Re: MOSTOWY, Selkirk, MB to AB
What is a local history book project? How would I obtain a copy if I don't reside in the area?
Again, I don't know if you have been following the thread, but I'm really new to this stuff and it's really got my fascination but I know basically NOTHING about how to find things.
I will Google what I can but any help provided is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shayla
