Looking for info on Levi & Celina, who moved from Quebec in 1891 and settled south of Winnipeg. My husband is their
gr-grandson and would like information on them and to
connect with all his relatives.

Hi Linda:

Your Levi and Celia are listed on the 1901 Census as living in Provencher, subdistrict of Ritchot. with their 11 children. at:

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/DisplayPagePanb.jsp?id=...

Their are 2 of the births on the Man. Vital Stat. Site. Charlemagne or Joseph Charles Joackim born in the R. M. or Ritchot, December 18, 1899and Georgette or Marie Josephine born in St. Norbert. ( note: that St. Norbert is in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot.) August 2, 1893. Both list the mother as Celia Bergeron.

Their are 6 Courchaine marriages here 3 of which are in Ritchot. One is Oscar's marriage. You may want to check the paper for a marriage announcement. now that you have a date. Their is a Marie Emma Courchaine here married in Ritchot. Don't know if this is your Marie, Emma or not.

http://web2.gov.mb.ca/cca/vital/ListView.php

Their are 9 deaths listed 3 of which are in Ritchot. Depending if they stayed in the St. Norbert area they may be buried in the St. Norbert cemetery. it is quite large.

I looked on the 1906 census but couldn't find them yet. Perhaps that area isn't transcribed yet.

Good Luck

Hello Rosemary,

I have just seen your reply to Linda. I'm new to this so am hoping this will go to both you and Linda. What caught my eye was mention of Oscar Courchaine's marriage. I am very interested in connecting with his descendants or relatives there of. My uncle (half) is I believe the son of Irene Courchaine and Maurice Roy. I can't find records easily. Is Oscar the son of the above people, Levi and Celia? I have found that he married Emma Trottier. I found some birth records under her name on ancestry but none with the name Irene. But there is a Marie Angelique born in 1912 and I think this is the same person. I can't find anything else but want to find information for my uncle. His mom died shortly after he was born. He would love to know his family more and his history. I think he is 75 now.

Linda, if you are seeing this, I wonder if Oscar and your relative Marie Emma are siblings and therefore you and my uncle are third cousins?

I am coming to Winnipeg june 6 for a few days and would love to connect if anyone has more information.

Allie

Hi Linda,

I replied to some info Rosemary sent in 2005. Does your husband now know more about his gr grandparents? If so, I wonder if my uncle is also gr grandson. I believe his mother is Irene Courchaine (official name may have been Marie Angelique) born to Oscar Courchaine and Emma Trottier. Irene married my grandfather, Maurice Roy. She then died soon after childbirth. My uncle is my half uncle because Maurice then remarried my grandma, Clementine Charrette.

Do you have any information? I wonder if my uncle and your husband are third cousins? My uncle is 75 now and would really like to know more about his family.

Thanks,

Allie
