Fairmount was a Post Office from 1883 - 1887 and was located at Section 10, Township 16, Range 19, W 1.

If you find Basswood on # 16 (Yellowhead ) highway and follow Provincial Road # 270 north to approximately where it crosses the Saskatchewan River you will be very close to where the Fairmount Post Office was.

I will ask a couple of people I know from the area if they have any further info.

Hello Connie
I was going through the older queries and noticed your query. My great grandparents lived in the Fairmont District north of Basswood and my great aunt Jessie married Neil McDonald son of John McDonald and Mary McCormick and I do have some information on the family if you are interested.

Hello All,
My grandfather Donald Macdonald (1885- followed his cousin Lachlan to Basswood, Manitoba from Greenock around 1912. Donald was the son of John Macdonald, postmaster of Iona and his wife Jessie MacCormick. Neil, son of another John Macdonald (Calva on Iona) and his wife Mary MacCormick (Sithean) was the brother of Lachlan who married Flora MacCormick.
Would be nice to weave all this together...
