This quarter-section of land (160 acres approx.) is seven miles east of the town of Virden and then one mile south. It is located within the rural municipality of Woodworth. The Trans-Canada Highway (aka No. 1) is nearby, and a loop of the Assiniboine River runs through the quarter-section. It is likely good farmland. Also, oil is drilled on some lands in this general area.

Thank-you for taking the time to post this, bonbridge. I had found a notice of sale from CN to my great-grandmother, status of purchase: Uncertain, for $3.00 per acre in 1895. I was trying to determine if, in fact, this sale had gone through and this was the homestead. Looks like it isn't, but I'm travelling in the area and will check it out. Thanks again for your time.

If you go to the website "Archivianet" (Library & Archives Canada), to its list of databases, then click on Western Land Grants, and use the pertinent drop-down boxes to ask for Section 13, township 10, range 25, W1, you will see that the original transfer of the East Half of this section (which would include both the SE and SW quarter-sections) from the Crown to the homesteader went to Emma McGeorge, wife of Joseph Samuel McGeorge. The other parts of this section had been granted to the Canadian Pacific Railway.
This means that Emma McGeorge was the homesteader. To find out what happened to this land after she was granted it, you'd have to track this quarter-section through changes in the land title. You can request a land-title history through the provincial land-titles office for that area, at a cost of about $8 per title change. Info about the process is online, or I can give you directions.
What was your great-grandmother's name? Did the census info in the previous posts have the correct family --your great-grandma?
There are homestead files at the Man. Archives. These contain letters, applications, etc. regarding the homestead, but don't usually indicate what happened in subsequent changes of ownership, as that had nothing to do with the original transfer of the land as a homestead, from the Crown (Dominion of Canada) to the first legal owner, aka the homesteader. You may already know this, but just in case you don't....

Thank-you again for taking the time to help me. That's great information, and I'll do some more checking and comparing with census info and see what I find.
