Here's an example of compiling 1800s Manitoba family records
by using 1900s digital online records available now for BC (after some of the people moved there):
I used https://familysearch.org/search
to search for family records:

I rarely find actual marriage records, but I’ve found many excellent substitute records, like their own death record or their child’s marriage record, listing (bride’s and groom’s) father’s name and maiden name of mother.

At

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...

are posted a lot of grandchildren from the 1849 Ontario Canada marriage of the

1881 Manitoba family of Isaiah Mawhinney and Elizabeth Rutledge

Quite a few of the exact Manitoba family records were discovered by searching in BC (for example) for their own death records, or their children's marriages in BC digital records on https://familysearch.org/search listing (bride's/groom's) full mother's maiden name etc:
-

Some of the surnames in the above descendancy are

Mawhinney minnary coveney rutledge willis hunter hillis fisher berry sutcliffe sutcliff dilworth brydon anderson

Thanks very much for the vital records BC site!
I used it briefly before, but forgot.
-
This time it took an hour or two to get familiar with the search technique
Then after that I found the deaths of 2 or 3 Mrs. Mawhinney ladies, one of whom I was a little surprised died in BC
~~Appreciatively,

if we don't find actual original document available at
http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy/Adva...
-
using that BC indexing information of the document, we can usually find the document online at

Thanks for the tips everyone. I have been working on the Mawhinney tree for our own family for about a week. But knew a bit to begin with. Connected to Frobisher, Saskatchewan. I was able to download the B.C. Archives documents i wanted in regards James Mawhinney even the ones not on the B.C. online site such as James death.
