Search for birth records 1898 Norman Charette or Charrette
We have been searching for this missing link! We need to find birth records and just don't know where to look. I am a newbie! We have census 1911 (Saskatchewan) and a Military document (Manitoba) that identifies his place of birth as Manitoba. His parents Joseph and Adelaide (b- Mar 29 1870) were married in Montana county of Fergus 1887 (we have a copy). Joseph (b-Jan 05 1851 Pembina North Dakota) had resided in North Dakota, Turtle Mountain, Lewistown and her parents (Sioux Indian woman of Lakota Tribe) were Joseph Gaganeau and Margarete Chartier. Joseph and Adelaide had a daughter Edna (after 1887). Then NORMAN b.1898 May 22 but we have no records to prove his association to his parents other then the census (his father had died before then) and the military record stating his mother, I also have his death record.
I need a birth certificate or baptism record! Can anyone give some advice? Can anyone help? Its been 3+ years that my mother in law has been searching (given her limited ability.)
I forgot to mention Norman changed his name to Miller or Mueller approx at age 18 (We know about his children, marriage and family later in life.) NOTE: I see that a lot of names were spelled differently along the way so I included all spellings.

So I should try all three spellings! Charath??? Thats a new one! Hmm so I have not been able to find a birth certificate. Maybe I should look for a baptism record in Manitoba? This stuff is so tricky!

Re: Search for birth records 1898 Norman Charette or Charrette
Hi, Just a thought Names that appear on the Census - may be spelled differently than the actual surname
All depends on what the Enumerator thinks he/she hears -and their ability to spell. No one checks - to see if the name is spelled correctly. In some cases - family members may all spell and pronounce their surnames differently.
It is possible that Norman CHARETTE, CHARRETTE [are you certain of this spelling - ?] may not have had his birth Registered at the time of his birth. Sometimes the families may have had to wait for an official - to visit their community. NOTE: In some Provinces - early Registration of Birth - had very little information - may not show the names of both parents . May show the name of the person registering the birth. only.
A late REGISTRATION of BIRTH - may have been submitted much later - perhaps even just prior to applying for Pension - etc. -or perhaps - When joining the Military.
BAPTISM: - What religion did the family practice. Church Records - may show information.
Searched the Manitoba Vital Stats online for the given name Norman - and date 1898 The Closest - is the following:
LAST NAME: SHERRITT FIRST NAME: NORMAN WELLINGTON DATE OF BIRTH: 04/10/1898 PLACE OF BIRTH: SIVLER CREEK SEX: MALE REGISTRATION NUMBER: 1899,006709 REGISTRATION DATE: Maiden Last Name: JARROTT Given Names: ELIZABETH

Re: Search for birth records 1898 Norman Charette or Charrette
No I don't know when he died. I figure they lived in the states (North Dakota) until he passed then the moved to Canada. I do have evidence of Normans other deceased sisters (Marie-Emma Charette baptism in 1890 in Olga, North Dakota and a Marie-Sara Rosilda Charette 1893 both sisters found in Our Lady of sacred heart register -Olga ND. I sort of feel as though his parents did register the girls baptism they would have done the same for their proceeding children. I have his parents Metis marriage certificate and his military record (deserter) and the 1911 and now 1906 census. I have also seen Normans fathers name (Joseph) listed in a land claim with Louis Real (sp). . Then NORMAN b.1898 May 22 but we have no records to prove his association to his parents other then the census (1911) (his father had died before then) and the military record stating his mother, I also have his death record. But I need to tie him to his father.

Yes when her first husband died she married her neighbour in Manitoba. I didn't really want to get into that as it was complicated! Lol Yes this one is odd!
