Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
I am looking for any information on the history of the Ryall hotel in Carman Manitoba that burned down a couple of nights ago. I know that it is named after my great-great uncle Ed Ryall. My grandmother lived there for a while as a child and cannot remember if it was Ed Ryall who built the hotel. There is rumors of a newspaper article (possibly the Winnipeg Sun) stating that the hotel was previously called the Victoria. This has sparked some questions from my family members who are positive that Ed Ryall built it. Any help on this or any info on the Ryall family in Carman Manitoba would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Have you thought to check with the Manitoba Heritage Branch. They did some fairly detailed research on the Carman area in the mid-1980s.

Re: Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
Shannon, I am very interested in this Edwin Ryall who built this hotel. He was married to Marguerite called Dolly nee Crow, that was at least his first wife. She died in 1901 and they had one son also called Edwin, born in 1894 and he was a doctor.
Would like to exchange info and find out anything more that I can.

Re: Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
I am also a Ryall related to this hotel. My dad worked for Ed back in the 50's, it was his uncle. Any information you have about the Ryalls I would greatly appreciate. The hotel according to my dad was built by his uncle after another hotel that he owned burned down. There was a safe in the hotel from the old hotel. I can't remember the name of it but if I look around I will find a pic of it I think. I have a few pics of the inside of the old hotel from way back in the day. And a few from a few years ago just before it burned.

Re: Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
I'm not sure how you got my email address, but I don't remember looking for any Ryalls or about Carman, Manitoba. Although, my mother's family was from the Winnipeg area - I remember the name Morden (town) as where her grandparents married. Their last name was Gradwell. Her parents also married in Winnipeg - their name was Skjold. (Other related names would be Goldsmith and White.) Could I have posted a question about that area? Possibly!
If any of these names sound familiar to you, let me know!

Re: Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
I live in Carman, Manitoba and I knew a couple of the owners of the Ryall Hotel, although that was in the last years of the hotels existance. When I was younger, I knew some of the "customers" of the beverage room in the hotel and a couple of the older men who lived upstairs in the rooms. This was the accomodation for seniors before we had the Boyne Lodge. The food served in the dinning room was excellent. My last name is Woods, born in Carman and now retired here. If anyone has any information about the Woods families from Carman or Miami, I would certainly like to share it with them. My Great Grandfather and my Grandfather were born in Armaugh, Ireland and they are both burried in Carman, Manitoba. - Larry Woods

Re: Ryall Hotel Carman Manitoba
Hi, I know you posted this (asking about whether the Ryall Hotel had had another name) a long time ago, but I thought I'd let you know I just found photos of my husband's grandmother and a few are labelled 'Ryall Hotel, Carman, Man. 1923'. I guess the hotel would have been about 20 years old at that point. All the best, ..bhan
