Hi, A Public Library for the area - or a Larger Public Library may hold the Gilbert Plains Maple Leave for 1954 in their collection.

This newspaper is on microfilm at the Manitoba Legislative Library. If you can give me a specific date, name and subject, I will do a lookup for you. Kind regards, Bonnie

I have "Held for Mrs. Rosie Manchura, 98 years" as a headline, obviously it was cut off at the top.

It is a notice of her funeral which took place on January 13, 1954. I'm not sure when the article was published, but would have been after that date, not before because it says "funeral services were held..."

I have a clipping, but it's cut off on the top and the bottom, so we're missing information.

Gilbert Plains, Maple Leaf, Thursday, January 14, 1954

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. ROSIE MANCHURA, 98 YEARS

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 13 from St. Wladimer Greek Orthodox church for Mrs. Rosie Manchura, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mike Danyluk on Sunday, Jan. 10, in her 98th year. Rev. E. Gorsica officiated. Her six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in Chatsworth with Eggertson;s funeral home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Manchura was born in Austria and received her education there. She married John Manchura and came to Canada in 1909, settling in the Gilbert Plains district, where they lived for several years. In 1944 they retired and moved into town. Mr. Manchura predeceased his wife in 1947.
She is survived by five sons, Harry of Grandview, Lukijan and Fred of Watson, Sask., William of Melfort, Sask., and Onufrey of Flin Flon; four daughters, Mrs. M. Danyluk of Gilbert Plains, Mrs. N. Macimbroda of Venlaw, Mrs. M. Harapiak of Mink Creek, Miss Yerema Manchura of Melfort, Sask.; 62 grandchildren and 94 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Frank Gryba, died in December, 1953.
(I checked the next column of the newspaper to see if there was more, but there wasn't -- the above obit ends with the death of Mrs. Gryba)
