I am researching in the Komarno area as well and have come across this information. There is a John Popowicz who obtained his land under the homestead act in 1900, legal description NE 21-17-2E . You can obtqin further information from Homestead records telephone no. (204) 945-3971. The inforamtion that I got is from a history book named "They Came For The Future" by the Teulon & District History Committee. Unfortunately, your family history is not in this book. However, you may try another book called "The Interlake Beckoned: A History of Inwood and Surrounding Districts". I just finished reading it and I think I saw you family listed in it. You can inter-library loan this book from the National Library of Canada, call number FC 3399 159158 FOL.

Hello Betty,
I own the book "The Interlake Beckoned" and did a quick check through it and could not find the Popowich Popowicz family but will look through it more carefully in case the family has been mentioned in another family story.

In the book Spruce, Swamp & Stone by Michael Ewanchuk ..
There is a Matthew Popowich name listed page 115 & 271
A History of the Pioneer Ukrainian Settlements in the Gimli Area.
I also, checked 100 Years of History for the Rockwood Municipality and there is no mention of the name.
