Carl A. Carlson Family
Mr. Carlson was born in Delsbo, Sweden, on December 30, 1874, and Anna, his wife, was born May 16, 1878.
They immigrated to Canada in 1903, arriving in Winnipeg on September 9. They spent three years in the Elmwood district, then homesteaded in the Carlsborg school district in 1906.
There were two daughters born in Sweden, Anna, December 20, 1899, and Hildur, May 24,1901. Alice was born in Winnipeg on August 10, 1904, and Gilbert at Inwood April 28, 1910.
There were two girls and one boy that died in infancy.
Mr. Carlson was a carpenter by trade, and after his wife's death on August 6, 1912, the children were alone, with some help from relatives and friends. They endured many hardships. There was little schooling and they worked on the farm.
Gilbert attended Carlsborg school and then spent his earlier years helping his father on the farm.
Anna was married to Gotfred Axelson. They had one daughter, Joan (Mrs. F. House) who lives at Wawota, Sask. A son, Ralph, died when he was 9 years old. Anna passed away on March 28, 1955.
Hildur was married to Emil Enberg. There were five children.
Enid (Mrs. R. Dugas), who lives in Winnipeg.
Edward-lives on the farm at Inwood.
Roy-who lives in Winnipeg.
Joyce (Mrs. E. Futz) lives in Winnipeg.
Alice (Mrs. A. Peterson) lives in Winnipeg.
Hildur passed away July 3, 1964.
Alice Carlson married Rudy Boosted. There was one son, Dick. Alice passed away in 1964 also.
Gilbert is married to Germaine Verscheure. They have two boys, Victor and Ralph, who both reside in Winnipeg. Gilbert is the last surviving member of the original Carlson family.
Carl Carlson outlived his three daughters. He passed away on November 29, 1964, only a month before his 90th birthday.
